Finally, after what must have seemed like an eternity Coach Phillip Haywood and the Belfry Pirates claimed the championship with a 14-7 victory over Coach Ty Scroggins’ Central Jackets. Belfry had lost four times in the finals to Central since 2007. This game came down to the final seconds as Central had the ball on the Belfry eight yard line with three seconds on the clock. Central’s final play was an incomplete pass to the end zone as time expired. Belfry recorded 14 first downs and 352 yards of total offense, all on the ground. The Pirates were penalized seven times for 57 yards and lost two fumbles. Central recorded 10 first downs and 169 yards of total offense. The Jackets were penalized 12 times for 112 yards and had one pass intercepted.
5-9 220 pound FB Austin Hatfield led the punishing
Belfry ground game with 235 yards and a touchdown on 30 carries. Keaton
Taylor carried the ball 15 times for 121 yards and a touchdown.
Stevon Beason led Central’s ground game with 28 yards on nine carries. Myron Norfleet completed 10 of 29 passes for 117 yards with one interception. Zachary White caught four passes for 52 yards. Stevon Beason added three receptions for 37 yards. Aaron Duncan led the defense with five solo and eight assisted tackles with one of his tackles resulting in a 12 yard loss. Elijah Owens added five solo and three assisted tackles. Luke Bowman Jr. recorded four solo and five assisted tackles. Kendrick Talley scored on a 56 yard fumble recovery return.
