These are a few of my favorite books. Definately look for them!
The Moorchild by Eloise McGraw. The best way to examine human nature is to step outside of it. Eloise does this, without leaving the depressing aftertaste of utter hopelessness some biting commentaries make.
The Prydain Series by Lloyd Alexander. Without a doubt my favorite booke series, although I have yet to explain, fully, why. There is just something in them that inspires my imagination. There are five books in all.
The Dark is Rising Series by Susan Cooper. This is my second favorite book series. They inspire me in a different, but still profound way.
A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle. This is a my favorite book, period. It is the first in a trilogy, but the book stands on its own. Its concept of the universe, our place in it, and the value of love really hits me.
Holes by Louis Sachar. You know how some books keep with reality just enough so that you keep thinking, "Well, it could happen" before thinking, "And pigs shall fly through my royal window", and ending up with a muddled view of life? Here's one!
