Haverhill was first settled in 1640. It was a bloody and miserable time for its residents and the rest of the colonies due to the depredations of the Indians. In 1704
Jonathan's wife, Hannah, was captured by Indians, where their 8 day old baby, Abigail, was savagely and brutally killed in front of her. Three (3) years later Jonathan rescued her at Three Rivers, Canada. To read the entire story of Hannah Eastman's capture, click here. Jonathan executed his Will on 3/2/1747 and it was admitted to probate on 5/30/1758. The Will can be found in Vol. 14, page 503, Exeter probate records. |
