Genetics

Mendel and Genetics

Gregor Mendel
Principle of Segregation
Principle of Independent Assortment
Incomplete Dominance
Codominance

Heredity is the transmision of characteristics from parent to offspring by means of genes. This is generally a regular process that follows predictable patterns. The basic rules of inheritance in eukaryotes were first discovered by Gregor Mendel(1822-1884). Mendel's discoveries went, during his time, unappreciated. Mendel came upon two major findings, his Principle of Segregation and his Principle of Independent Assortment, his work became the foundation of the science of genetics. Even after scientists experimented further and stumbled upon Incomplete Dominance and Codominance they still found that Mendel's Principles were correct. The fact that Mendel's findings are over 100 years old and that they are still thought to be correct drove me to create this site dedicated to his findings.
