My Bible Study Pattern

First we must come to realize that what works for one person may not work for another. Each person must find his or her own way of studying.

What I will lay out here is what I found did and still does work for me.

The most important thing is consistence, this applies to everything we do, the more we practice it the easier it becomes, and the better we can understand it.

Look at what a few verses of the Bible says.

De 8:3
And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live.

Pr 14:15
The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going.

Pr 30:5
Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.

Mt 4:4
But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

Mt 18:16
But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.

Notice it speaks of every word, not just one or two but every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God. Every word in the Bible comes from God's mouth; therefore, we must look at every word in the Bible for what it is saying.

Now these next words I am writing I do not write to be a braggart, nor to say I am something special, it is just the routine I follow.

I get up every morning at 5 AM. The first thing I do is go to the Lord in Prayer, what is said here is between He and I.

After I finish this Prayer, I then go to the table and get my Bible and Pray

In this Prayer I always ask of three things

Open my eyes so I can see what your Word says.
Open my mind so I can understand
Open my heart so I can believe and share with others.

When I finish this Prayer I start reading, not just what is written but every word

When I am doing my studying, I use a Thompson chain reference Bible KJV, a Strong's concordance, and sometimes a couple commentaries Bibles to see what that individual has to say.

Let me share with you here this process, using the Gospel of Luke chapter 21:

Lu 21:5
And as some spake of the temple, how it was adorned with goodly stones and gifts, he said,
Lu 21:6
As for these things which ye behold, the days will come, in the which there shall not be left one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.
Lu 21:7
And they asked him, saying, Master, but when shall these things be? and what sign will there be when these things shall come to pass?

Now remember by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live.

The Bible is the Word that proceedeth out of the Mouth of God, I guess one could say that the Bible is God's mouth.

Lu 21:7
And
meaning something had been said or done before this verse, and that one should go back and see what it is referring too.

they
who were the they . I go back and see just whom He was speaking too. When one does this, they will find that Christ is talking to the disciples, they were the they.

asked
I make sure that this is a question being asked and not just a comment being made by someone.

him,
we know through following the conversation here that the Him is Jesus.

saying,

by knowing the above information we know that it is the disciples saying or speaking to Christ, but it is more than just that. When we look up the Greek for the word used we find it was lego leg’o, which is a prime verb, prepositional to lay forth (usually of systematic or set discourse) meaning put forth, shew, speak, utter, and in some cases preach, or tell us.

Master,
The Greek word used here was didaskalos did-as’-kal-os now in normal reading we would think this word was used to indicate that Christ was their Lord, in our normal thought we would look at it as meaning Saviour, but it does not, it only means an instructor, a doctor, teacher. So by knowing this the, we can understand at this point they were still not sure who Christ was other than a great teacher.

but

just a little word meaning, they were not satisfied with some of the information He had given them and they wanted Him to give them more information.

when
This form of when, which can be found in strong’s concordance as number 4218 in the Greek translation, was only used three or four times within the four gospels, in most of the other books of the New Testament a different form of when was used. The Greek word was pote pot-eh’ meaning at some time, ever (anytime, sometime), in time past, once, when.

In other words, they did not have a clue as to what Christ was talking about in Luke 21 verse 6.

shall
basically meaning it is going to occur, whatever it may be.

I think by now you have the jest of what I am trying to show you, by keeping this technique in mind, let us look at what the rest of the verses are saying.

these things be?

Now when studying you have to go back to verse five and six and see what things they are asking about. When you do so and use the word by word process in verse 5 and 6, you will see how they were bragging on the temple, how big and pretty it is. Christ in return tells them that the day would come in the future, that everything they admired here would be totally destroyed.

Some of the people there may have lived to see this as it occurred in 70 AD when Jerusalem was destroyed.

Now one thing to remember as you study the rest of this, that this information was answering the questions asked In Matthew 24 that was not answered there, as well as questions pertaining to Christ return and the Millennium period,

Verse 21 on is dealing with the rapture and the things that will occur just before it and just after it.

and what sign will there be when these things shall come to pass?

Lu 21:8
And he said, Take heed that ye be not deceived: for many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and the time draweth near: go ye not therefore after them.
Lu 21:9
But when ye shall hear of wars and commotions, be not terrified: for these things must first come to pass; but the end is not by and by.
Lu 21:10
Then said he unto them, Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom:
Lu 21:11
And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.
Lu 21:12
But before all these, they shall lay their hands on you, and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues, and into prisons, being brought before kings and rulers for my name's sake.
Lu 21:13
And it shall turn to you for a testimony.
Lu 21:14
Settle it therefore in your hearts, not to meditate before what ye shall answer:
Lu 21:15
For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist.
Lu 21:16
And ye shall be betrayed both by parents, and brethren, and kinsfolks, and friends; and some of you shall they cause to be put to death.
Lu 21:17
And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake. Lu 21:18
But there shall not an hair of your head perish.
Lu 21:19
In your patience possess ye your souls.
Lu 21:20
And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh.
Lu 21:21
Then let them which are in Judaea flee to the mountains; and let them which are in the midst of it depart out; and let not them that are in the countries enter thereinto.
Lu 21:22
For these be the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled.
Lu 21:23
But woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck, in those days! for there shall be great distress in the land, and wrath upon this people.
Lu 21:24
And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.
Lu 21:25
And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;
Lu 21:26
Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.
Lu 21:27
And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.
Lu 21:28
And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.
Lu 21:29
And he spake to them a parable; Behold the fig tree, and all the trees;
Lu 21:30
When they now shoot forth, ye see and know of your own selves that summer is now nigh at hand.
Lu 21:31
So likewise ye, when ye see these things come to pass, know ye that the kingdom of God is nigh at hand.
Lu 21:32
Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, till all be fulfilled.
Lu 21:33
Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.
Lu 21:34
And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.
Lu 21:35
For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth.
Lu 21:36
Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.
Lu 21:37
And in the day time he was teaching in the temple; and at night he went out, and abode in the mount that is called the mount of Olives.
Lu 21:38
And all the people came early in the morning to him in the temple, for to hear him

I Pray you have used the form of study that I laid out and studed the remainder of the verse. If you have I am sure you found there are more to them than we gererally look at.

God Bless and keep you.
