(AKC Non-Sporting Group)

Height:
9 to 11 inches.

Weight:
averages 16 pounds.

Size:
Small.

Description:
This spunky little dog makes an ideal family pet, and companion. The Lhasa Apso, comes from a history of use as a guard dog in the Monasteries of Tibet. These little guys and gals were treated as sacred animals by the Monks. It was believed that the souls of the Dalai Lamas (the sovereigns of that country) entered the dogs after they died. It was the practice of the Dalai Lama of Tibet to give a pair of Palace-bred Apsos to visiting high dignitaries and officials from other countries. The first Lhasa Apso to be registered with the AKC was entered into their records in 1935.

Children:
Where there are children, you can surely find the Lhasa Apso romping and playing. Even though this little guy or gal are little in statue, they are mentally alert to take care of themselves. But like with any breed, children should be taught not to abuse our four footed friends.

Friendliness:
Moderately protective, These little guys are known to pick and choose their friends.
