Basic Information:
- Activated August 14, 1942 at Camp Claiborne, Louisiana
- Trained Fort Benning GA
- Entered European Theater of Operations
- Entered combat June 6, 1944
- Served in 3 major operations:
1) Operation Overlord (D-Day)
2) Operation Market Garden, an air drop into Holland
3) The Battle of The Bulge, the defense of Bastogne
- As part of the 3rd Army Group the Screaming Eagles helped to capture the Wolf's Lair- Hitler's private bunker
- The combat components of the 101st were:
A) The 501 Parachute Infantry Regiment
B) The 502 Parachute Infantry Regiment
C) The 506 Parachute Infantry Regiment
D) The 327 Glider Infantry Regiment
E) The 321 Glider Infantry Regiment
F) The 907 Glider Artillary Regiment
G) The 326 Airborne Engineer Batallion
- The Sceaming Eagles were deactivated and sent home from Europe in November 1944
- In May 1956 the 101st was officially reactivated and stationed at Ft. Campbell KY where they operate today.
