3 quarts water
1 pint vinegar
3/4 cup canning salt
1/2 tablespoon alum
1/2 tablespoon black pepper
dill-optional
Slice veggies and fill quart jars. Add dill if desired. Mix water, vinegar, canning salt, alum, and black pepper. Boil 10 minutes and pour over veggies. Process in boiling water bath for 10 minutes.
