Dill Pickles

3 quarts water
1 pint vinegar
3/4 cup canning salt
1/2 teaspoon alum
1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Use medium size cucumbers. Wash and soak in cold water several hours or overnight, Drain and fill jars. Put head of dill in each jar. Boil solution 10 minutes and pour over pickles. Process in boiling water bath 10 minutes.
