Don't Promise

Don't make me any promises,
For you know they may be lies.
You don't know how long you have,
At any moment, you could die.
Don't promise me you'll love me,
Forever and a day,
Because, for you, forever may not be that far away.
Don't promise me the moon and stars,
Don't promise me the sun,
Don't make me hope for things that may never come.
Don't promise me a future,
That may never be,
Don't promise a tomorrow, that you may not see.
Just be with me,
Here and now,
For it may be all that I will receive.
And don't let me think of tomorrow,
The tomorrow when I'll grieve.
