The Cameraman Debate

This page last updated on November 9, 1998

This possible cameo is one of the ones that is under debate as to whether it is actually James Cameron or not. Thanks, Milo for pointing out these pics to me. Below you will find some pictures that could support or refute it, depending on how you look at it. Naturally, I have to give you my opinion. : - ) I think the second set of pictures (of the Southampton scene - one wider shot and one a closer shot of the cameraman from the wider shot) show that more than one old camera was used on the set. The one in the picture with James Cameron in the first set of pictures doesn't look like the one in the second set of pictures.

The first four pictures are from the book James Cameron's Titanic.

I have added a pic of the sepia shot of the cameraman that I think is James Cameron (Thanks - Gerry for coming through for me again!) I hope this will help with the Cameraman Debate.

Other Opinions

My personal opinion on it is that it could be him, though I personally can't say beyond reasonable doubt. I would think that James would see the parallelism if he would play that part himself. It seems a perfect tribute to him as a filmmaker. He films the Titanic in the past and he films it in the present. He went to great lenghts to film the wreck and I think he fantasized filming the actual ship itself when it left Southhampton. I think it's the "Cameron" thing to do.... Gerry

This is just my opinion and you might not even understand what I mean, but I just think that Cameron had too much to do and enjoyed his directing job and took it very seriously. Therefore I don't think that he would spend time getting costumed and having fake hair and a beard put on. Milo :)
