There are many reasons why I love the vampire Lestat. First of all, heīs hard to surprise. When something strange happens, he just say something like: "Thatīs the way it is, and in stedt of makinī something bad about it, why donīt you just laugh at it, and live on?" He takes live so easy, I like that. Heīs got a great humor, and itīs not often he surprize me. But I did get surprized in "The Tale Of The Body Thief". The place, where he has turned into a human being, in Raglan Jamesī body, and come to Louis to beg for help; but Louis doesnīt know that it is Lestat, so he try to kill him. Finally Lestat gets free, and Lestat gets very mad at Louis. Very mad. I have never heard him so mad before, it surprized me, and I have to read it again and again!
And Lestat doesnīt deny what he is. Never. He know he is evel, and doesnīt deny it, īcause heīs proud of it. Listen what he says to a girl named Dora in "Memnoch the Devil"
'Iīm not people, Dora. I am what I am. I donīt mean to draw any parallels with God in my repetitive epihets. I only mean Iīm evel. Very evel. I know I am. I have been since I started to feed on humans. Iīm Cain, the slayer of his brothers...'
He doesnīt believe in God or the Devil. And if he do, he doesnīt wanna help any of them in any way. He also said that in "Memnoch the Devil", the most confusing but also the most religeos of the books. You really get a feeling, when youīre finished, that you know everything about Heaven, Hell, the Earth and Lestat. Another quote, in Lestats own words, he doesnīt wanna help God or Memnoch. This is what Lestat tells Memnoch, after Memnoch has shown Lestat Heaven and Hell...
"The old anger, the resolve of Lestat. " I will not be part of this, not for you, not for Him, not for them, not for anyone.' I staggered backwards, glaring at him. 'No, not this. Not for God as blind as He, not for one who demands what you demand of me. Youīre mad, the two of you. I wonīt help you. I wonīt. I refuse.'"
Lestat is a genious, the perfect creature. His first vampire powers came before he was a vampire; when he fought the wolfes back home in France, for such a long time ago. Heīs beautiful, both men and women love him. Heīs wise, can do what he want, kill people with just looking at them, he can fly in the air, has big powers and he is something like everything a vampire should be... you could compare him with this sign:
You know, in all good things, there is something bad, and in all bad things, there is something good. In 'The Vampire Lestat' he believe in the good human, that you can be 'good'. But still, he is a vampire, so he is evil. If you understand. This is just how I look at him. I see him as more than just a vampire, I see him like the perfect vampire. He spent 2 or 3 days in the desert in 'The Tale Of The Body Thief', and didnīt die, just got golden skin, nothing more.
Finally I came up with something more to write about the great and beloved Lestat de Lioncourt, king of the vampires... his laugther. The way he sometimes just get to laugh, and he canīt stop, everybody getīs mad at him, but heīs just laughing! The way he kinda - donīt care about others, and he does that anyway... he live the way he wants to live, thatīs all! Just like I want to live!
