This album was Teena's most commercially successful album due to the fact that its single, "Lovergirl," was a huge hit on the pop, as well as R&B, charts. And Starchild was officially certified gold on April Fool's Day in 1985. The beautiful "My Dear Mr. Gaye" was a tribute to Motown soul star Marvin Gaye who was slain that year. Teena enlisted Gaye's own musicians to play on the tune.
