~ Real-Old Fashioned Lemonade ~
1 cup of freshly squeezed lemon juice (about 6 - 8 lemons)
1 cup granulated sugar, or to taste
4 cups of cold water
1 fresh lemon cut into cartwheel slices
Ice cubes
In a large pitcher, combine lemon juice and sugar;
Stir to dissolve sugar. Add water; Stir to blend well.
Refrigerate until serving time. Just before serving,
Add the lemon slices aand the Ice cubes; Serve At Once.
Yields about 6 cups:
VARIATIONS:
Pink Lemonade: Add a few drops red food coloring or grenadine syrup.
Honeyed Lemonade: Substitute Honey to taste for the sugar.
Tart Lemonade: Add a little cream of tarter to the recipe.
~GrandMa's Minted Lemonade Mix~
2 cups granulated sugar
2 1/2 cups of water
1 cup of freshly squeezed lemon juice( about 6 - 8 Lemons)
1/2 cup of freshly squeezed orange juice ( about 2 or 3 oranges )
Grated peel of 1 orange
1 cup of fresh mint leaves
Crushed ice
In a medium sauce pan, combine sugar and water.
Bring to boiling: Simmer over medium high heat for 5 minutes.
Stir in the mint leaves. Cover and let stand for 1 hour,
Strain lemon syrup into a jar or a pitcher.
Store, covered, in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
For each serving, put 1/3 cup lemon syrup in an 8-ounce glass.
Fill the glass with crushed ice and cold water; Serve at once>
Yields about 4 cups of syrup, enough for approx: 12 ( 1 cup ) servings>
~ Fresh Gingered Lemonade ~
1 cup of water
1 cup of granulated sugar
1/4 cup of crystallized ginger, cut into thin strips
2 - 3 ( 3-inch ) strips lemon peel ( removed with a vegetable peeler )
3 1/2 cups of cold water
1 1/4 cups freshly squeezed lemon juice ( 8 or 9 lemons )
1 lemon, cut into cartwheel slices
Ice cubes
Combine 1 cup of water, sugar, ginger and lemon peel in a saucepan;
bring to boiling, and reduce heat; Briskly simmer for about 15 minutes.
Remove from heat and discard peel.
Add the cold water and lemon juice to the ginger syrup; mix well
Refrigerate, covered, for several hours or over night.
If desired, remove and discard the ginger pieces.
Serve lemonade over ice cubes in tall glass; garnish with a few lemon slicesYields about 6 Cups.
~ Fragrant Spiced Lemonade ~
5 star anise (available in Oriental markets and some supermarkets)
1 cup of granulated sugar
2 or 3 (3-inch) strips lemon peel (removed with a vegetable peeler)3 cups of cold water
1 cup of freshly squeezed lemon juice ( about 6 - 8 lemons )
1 lemon, cut into cartwheel slices
Ice Cubes
in a small non stick skillet over medium high heat,Toast whole star anise for 2 or 3 minutes, or until
Fragrant and slightly darkened, shaking the pan to prevent scorching.In a saucepan, combine 1 cup of water, sugar, lemon peel and toasted anise;
Bring to boiling, Reduce heat; briskly simmer for about 15 minutes.
Remove and discard the lemon peel.
Add Cold water and lemon juice to syrup; mix well. Refrigerate, covered for several hours or overnight.
Remove and discard star anise.
Serve lemonade over ice cubes in tall glasses, garnish with lemon slices.
