~ Mock Turtle Soup ~



1 1/2 - 2 lbs. lean ground beef
1 cup finely chopped onions
2 Tbsp. wine vinegar
1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
1 (10 3/4 oz.) can brown gravy
1 cup browned flour (brown flour in-dry skillet
stirring constantly. Do not use if burned)
1 (14 oz.) bottle catsup
1 Tbsp. whole allspice
3 beef bouillon cubes
1 lemon (sliced wafer thin)
2 1/2 qts. water
1 can condenced tomato soup
2 hard boiled eggs (optional)


Mix meat and onions together and cook over low heat.
When meat is no longer red, add vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, gravy, flour, catsup, lemon, bouillon cubes and water. put allspice in cloth bag or metal tea ball and place in mixture. Stir occasionally with a spatula to avoid sticking. Remove spice bag or tea ball. and Remove from heat. Refrigerate at least 12 hours. then return to heat and add the can of tomato soup.

Add the chopped eggs if desired before serving.
