She was driving on her own road, returning from a bible study, and about 3/10ths of a mile from home she apparently ran off the road, hit a mailbox, then hit a large tree. Reports stated that she had been going no more than 35mph when this happened, and there were no signs of fishtailing, so she didn't slam on the brakes. Autopsy reports state that she died from a ruptured artery. She also had a broken jaw and hemorraging in the back of her brain. Genelle likely was not wearing a seatbelt. Had she been wearing one, she wouldn't have hit the steering column and therefore wouldn't have died. After this accident, I heard that the city considered paving the road Genelle lived on, and they finally did several years later. The thing I am most grateful for about the day this happened was that Genelle had come to visit me at work about 4 hours before her accident. I was always so happy to see her, especially since I'd started college and didn't get to talk to her as often as I did in high school. I would have been much more upset if I had not gotten that chance to see her again before this. But I know she's still with me in spirit - She's always helping me out when I need her.

Genelle and I had been best friends for about 3 years. She was 4 years younger than me, so naturally she'd always seemed like the little sister I never had. We'd spend endless hours on the phone complaining about guys, school, other friends we had, and the usual stuff. We were always able to make each other feel better after having the most rotten day. In those short 3 years that I knew her she'd grown to be the closest friend I had. She was the only friend from school who always kept in touch with me after I graduated. She always kept me up to date on all the gossip from Loranger High School. :) I came back after graduating to chaperone Mardi Gras parades mainly to be able to hang out with her. We used to have so much fun in band together, especially on the bus rides to Metairie. We had lots of fun at concerts and parties too. There was so much more I wanted to do...I was looking forward to her taking college classes at SLU when she graduated because I knew I'd get to see her all the time. There's so much to say about the relationship Genelle and I had, but I can't even begin to put it into words. But she knows how much I love her and appreciate her, and that is what matters to me.
Some people come into our lives and quickly go Some people move our souls to dance They awaken us to new understanding with the passing whisper of their wisdom Some people make the sky more beautiful to gaze upon They stay in our lives for awhile, leave footprints on our hearts, And we are never ever the same" --Flavia Weedn
