TERMS OF REFERENCES FOR YOUNG GEOLOGISTS WORKING GROUP

 

The Young Geologists Working Group was formed during the first meeting of the Council of Geological Society of Malaysia for 2000/2001 on 16th May 2000.  This group is responsible to the Society for the promulgation of activities of a technical and social nature for the young members, defined as any members of the Society who are at or below the age of 35 including student members.

 

The Aims:

 

·                    To organize forums, technical meetings, continuos technical or management training and other events for the benefit of members to increase their professional capabilities.

 

·                    To organize social functions for members with a view to increase their awareness of the geology profession and the society.

 

·                    To encourage graduates and students in geology and related disciplines to join the society and participate in society affairs.

 

The Working Group Sub-Committee:

 

·                    Chairman: 1 person

 

·                    Secretary: 1 person

 

·                    Sub-Committee Members: 4 persons

 

·                    Students Representatives: 1 person from Kelab Geologi, UM

1 person from Kelab Geologi, UKM

 

The chairman of the Working Group shall be elect by the Council of the Society while the other sub-committee members shall be elect during the Forum on Young Geologists to be held annually toward the end of the year.

 

The Activities:

 

·        To promote the image of geologists through further interaction with local and overseas professional groups and further collaboration with other working groups.

·        To assist graduates to achieve theirs training objectives and professional development.

 

·        To provide students with information on theirs career prospects through organization of informal gathering and assisting in career searching information.

 

·        To organize technical talks such as Malam Geologis Muda series, seminars, short courses and visits for personal development and equipping members with necessary skills as a professional.

 

·        To systematically promote new members and participation in the society activities.
