ANNUAL  GEOLOGICAL CONFERENCE  2001

Introduction

The Geological Society of Malaysia is organising the 15th Annual Geological Conference at the Pan Pacific Resort, Pangkor Island, Perak Darul Redzuan on 2-3 June 2001.  The Annual Conference has been held since 1986 and is well attended by geoscientists from institutions of higher learning and government research departments, as well as the public and private sectors. For over a century, Malaysian geoscientists have played very important roles in the economic development of the country.  Now, as the country is experiencing rapid development in technological and IT-based industries, necessary steps must be taken by geoscientists to keep up with the pace of this rapid development.  In view of this, the Annual Geological Conference 2001 has chosen the theme ÒEnhancing the Contribution of Geoscientists in the Development of Malaysia?  Several thematic papers will be presented to highlight the important contributions of geoscientists in national development.  In addition, a forum is also planned to discuss the conference theme.
