Landslide Classification

Rotational landslide are due to forces that cause a turning movement about a point above the center of gravity of the failure mass, which results in a curved surface of rupture.

Translational landslide are controlled by weak layers, such as faults, joints, or bedding planes; e.g. the variation in shear strength between layers or the contact between firm bedrock and weathered overlying soil/ material
