What's in George's mouth? Tina and George at the June 4, 1998 show at the Showcase Theatre in Pomona, CA.

Back to the front gate.
Hello all. This is my little page dedicated to Switchblade Symphony. They're my #1 favorite band with the Cure. I liked the cover of Siouxsie and the Banshees "Nightshift" was better than the original (I'm sorry Siouxsie... no I'm not). I've been fortunate enough to see all of their shows at the Showcase over the past two years.
Here's an interesting little story. At the last show at the Showcase on June 4, 1998. I went to see them perform. My friends and I got to the Showcase really early. It was funny. These two young ladies (pretty young ladies) wer in line and they started talking to me (Aw Yeah!). They said I looked familiar. I asked them if they went to the Cure convention. Then one of them was like "Aaaah! It is him!". They remembered me from the sing-alike and look-alike contests at the Cure convention. I had a sudden ego-boost, but, anyways, I'm gettin off track here. With my camera in hand and my cassette recorder in my purse (I was wearing a skirt that night, so, I had nowhere to put my wallet and such). They checked my purse and let me in. Cool, I thought they wouldn't have let me take it in. O'well. So we went in and took our positions on the foot of the stage. We had to position there early and sit through all of the bands so that we could be close-up for Switchblade. The band's weren't all that bad. I think first was something like Graveyard Punx. I don't remember. Then came Sylt. They were pretty good. Next was Cinema Strange. They were the best damn band I've seen open for Switchblade. They've opened for them before. Now they were a trio. Seeing them gives me kind of a nostalgic moment. They remind me of the Nutrinos from the Ninja Turtles that I used to watch when I was a kid. I would love to see them cover "Splintered in her head" by the Cure. Before Switchblade was Darkling Thrush... okay, that's enough about them. Well, actually, the bassist was kind of neat. He started to play the Cure's "just like heaven" for me when he was warming up (I think it was for me, I could be wrong). Then came what we were all waiting for. I hit record on my cassette player and put it on the stage. I'd already recorded some of the other bands. Switchblade was very entertaining. During the song "Clown", a lighting fixture fell out of the cieling barely missing George Earth. Luckily the only damage done was to the guitar cord that was sliced in half. He didn't realize that it was the reason that he couldn't here his guitar anymore until after the song. He was so pissed off at the Showcase! He started dancing around playing with Tina and stealing the mic to yell at the Showcase. The fifth song they played was a new song called "KISS". I was thinking "oh, cool! I've got the new switchblade song recorded!". Right after the song was over, Susan, the keyboardist, walked right up to where I was in front of the stage, bent down, picked up my tape recorder, and put it somewhere in the back. I didn't realize what she was doing so close until she'd already done it. I was in shocked. I was also kind of ashamed. I should've known better. For the rest of the show I felt kind of small thinking she was probably pissed about what I was trying to do. After the show, I couldn't get my recorder back from the Showcase. I was kind of unsure of trying to get it myself. I paid (I'm so embarrased) my friends sister to go in through the back and get the recorder for me. So she did. When she came back she said that Susan was really nice about the whole incident and sorry too. It was just that she didn't want it bootleged before it's time came. That was understandable. I had to apologize. I went in feeling about two feet tall and went in to see her. "Hey, I just wanted to apologize about the whole tape recorder thing". She was really cool about it. We talked for a few minutes. She's a really interesting person. (-she liked the Cure's disintegration, it's the only album by them she ever bought, it was one of the q's I asked her-). Susan was really sweet signing the flyers for me. Now that's the kind of girl I'm gonna marry. On the way out, I spoke to George Earth, the guitarist. I asked him if he was going to keep that cut up guitar cord. He asked me if I wanted it and of course I accepted. Now it's in my scrapbook as one of my switchblade souveniers with the signed flyers. I haven't had the opportunity to meet Tina, yet. I hope to at the next show. We'll see what happens. I'm going to add more pics of this show soon. Some of Cinema Strange and Sylt, too! Check back soon!
Bye!
