Do you
sign alot of guestbooks? If so, then you definitely need to
get a banner for your site. I, personally, love posting my banners
in guestbooks..... whoaaa.... I'm a really wild one, aren't I *grin*?
Anyway, I made my banners in photoshop but there is hope for those of you
who don't have image editing programs (although, I highly recommend that
you get one.... you can download the paint shop pro demo at tucows
... it's very similar to photoshop). There is a shareware program
called Microsites Banner
Generator that is specifically for banners (they refer to banners as
"web ads" by the way). There isn't a time limit on the program like
most demos.... it just won't let you use some of the features that
the full version will (like animations in your banners). If you'd
like your banner to be animated, you can download an animation program
to create one. Once again, tucows
should have that (that's where I got mine).
Graphics
reflect your personality and are really the key (with the exception of
page content or information on your site) to a great site. There
are tons of free animation/graphic sites on the net. If you are looking
to create your own but don't have the knowledge for making graphics there
is also a site called Web GFX
that lets you create your own graphics and guess what folks....it's freeeeeee.
I'm not quite sure if it makes banners, because I didn't finish surfing
through the site (i've been working on this site *grin*), but it might. |

To
me, fonts are very important in making a webpage more fun. I got
the majority of the fonts I used on my webpage at Cool
Archive (awesome site... they have clip art, icons, and all sorts
of website goodies and to top it all off... they're all free for the taking).
Just make sure that you don't try to use the fonts directly on your webpage.
If the viewer of your page does not have that font, then they won't be
able to see it. Use an image program and create an image so that
everyone can join in on the fun!!
Backgrounds
can either add or take away from your site depending on the background
itself. If your background is "too busy", then you're actually taking
more away from your site than you're actually adding....
Colors
also have a big impact on your site. Choose a certain color scheme
and stick with it if you can. I went to a site a few days ago that
had bright red, brown, lime green and hot pink all on the same page.
It was pretty tacky. Anyway, colors affect the way people respond.
For instance, how did you feel as you entered my site? Cheery, in
a sense, isn't it? Okay...here is another example. Restaurants
are normally decorated in colors such as red, orange, and yellow.....you
know why? Those three colors make you eat more...tip for all you
women out there that are watching your weight.... paint your kitchen in
a country blue or a similar "soft" color ..... it's an appetite suppressant.
Cool, isn't it? So, with that in mind... If you want your site
to be comforting, use pastel colors...if you want your site to be zesty/exciting,
use bright colors....if you want your site to be dramatic, use dark colors
such as navy and black.
When
you visit a site and you have trouble looking for links, what do you normally
do? Most people leave. How are they going to sign the guestbook?
Aw, come on, that's why we're all on the web, now isn't it *grin*?
Anyway, keep all the links to your pages together if you can. It
also helps to repeat them at the very bottom of all of your pages. |
