Elmer Eugene ORY, b. February 1898 (EBR), d. September 24, 1982 (EBR), m. Olive Elydia DAIGLE, b. August 19, 1900 (EBR), d. February 16, 1989 (EBR), February 19, 1919 in East Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana.
Legend has it that he went to live in New Orleans and that he loved to play the horses. He was seen by one of his relatives friends going into a grocery store on a regular basis and this was passed on to his estranged wife and family by Ms. Vivian BABIN in 1926. Anyway, one day John mailed Lizzie a letter saying to meet him at the Kleinpeter train station on Highland Road on a certain day. John waited around all day according to witnesses before he took the last train back to New Orleans. Lizzie received the letter and went to the train station to meet John, but she had received the letter a day late and she had missed seeing him. She was crushed and dissappointed to say the least. Lizzie lived for some time afterward and was never to see John again, alive or dead. No one knows where he is buried, when he died, or where he died at. Some older people who live along the Bluff Road claim to have seen an old hermit living deep in the Bluff Swamp for several years and that he was called Mr. Ory. The first story came from John's niece, Rita BABIN BUTLER from her sister Vivian BABIN and the second tale comes from my Aunt Ruth, his great niece. According to a Mr. R. D. Smith from the Bluff Road, Wild Bill used to run cattle near the Bluff Swamp with his brother-in-law, Barlow EDMONSTON.
Not much is left to tell about Wild Bill because he just up and disappeared one day. Left his wife and children living under the roof of his wife's father. It still remains a mystery as to what happened to John Wilton and we may never know the story. If anyone out there reads this and has any information, please mail me at the address below. Thanks.
