The Arch "Le Pont d'Arc" 5 miles away
A rock spur tunnelled by the river. Frequently used as the departure point for a canoe or kayak row down the river, along the canyon. Only 8 km (5 mi) from La Martinade, near the Chauvet Cave with its 30 000 years old rock paintings. |
PISSEVIEILLE waterfall
Only a few km from the house, a beautiful waterfall ends the course of Saint Remèze's brook. A 85 meter-high fall comes after an 800 meter-long canyon including pools end small waterfalls. Flowing only a few days a year, consequently to stong rainfalls. Route equipped for canyoning, recommended in dry weather conditions only. |
View of POUCHARESSE
Just downstream of the first bivouac in GAUD area, a wild spot overlooked by a cliff with corniches and rock shelters, home to wild goats and boars. |
Gournier bivouac area
Halfway down the canyon's 32 km (20 mi), and 6 km (4 mi) from La Martinade. A must in any riverside trek or canoe row. Overnight stop is possible. |
The Cathedral viewed from the Belvedere of La Madeleine cave
One the most beautiful panorama, 6 km from Saint Remèze. Direct road access from Saint Remèze. Ardeche Canyon Regional Park House, and opportunity to visit the Madeleine cave. |
Templars' balcony
A breathtaking sight just downstream of the Madeleine cave and the Cathedral rock. The river did not succeed in drilling this rock barrier. On the summit, ruins of an ancient leprosarium can be seen. On the right rim, an under-wood path winds through to the ruins. A belvedere, on the road side, the Templars' balcony, will let you admire this magical panorama.

Towards La Fève
Downstream of La Madeleine Cirque, a secluded footpath follows abrupt cliffs along the riverside. This route is recommended off peak season (July and August) to better enjoy the canyon widerness. |
