I dipped my toe in a cool brown stream
Refreshed by the ripples of a comforting dream
I found solace in the warm afternoon rain
As it stroked down my face, erasing my pain.

Friendship's the stream, your words are the rain
That pattern my day with a gentle refrain
The tangible feel of your spirit touching mine
Creates friendship's lyrics, strums its soft rhyme.

Play on, as time slides, as it flows and races away
Our lives on this stage last merely a day
All vanities fade, frailties pale, fears recede
Only friendship flows on, like a cool brown stream.
