Cabin In The Pines Home Of The Country Poet

One of these days

I'm gonna climb that mountain

Walk up there amongst them clouds

were the cottons' high

and the corns' a'growin

and there ain't no fields to plow.

A Country Boy's Life

************************
With a stone for my pillow
and a bed made of hay,
down by the river
is where I'll stay.

************************

A cabin of sticks
and mud I will build
to shelter myself
from winters cold chill.

************************

With a coat made of fur
from a big grizzley bear;
with a hat---------------
and gloves---------------
and shoes I will wear
all made of fur
from the big grizzley bear.

************************

I'll make a fire
and let it burn so bright
to keep out the cold
from the winters long night.

************************

I'll get water from the river
and meat from the trees
and sugar and honey
from the hive of the bees.

************************

All of lifes troubles
I'll leave far behind
'cause down by the river
sweet peace I will find.

************************

No more will I wander
I'll have peace and joy
and life will be simple
for this old country boy.
