Chapter 40

Justin and Maggie walked along the beach hand in hand. After awhile they decided to sit down and Maggie sat on Justin's lap with her back and head rested against his chest. He held onto both of her hands and entwined their fingers together over and over again. The sky was starting to get cloudy, and it looked like it was going to rain soon. The waves crashed like crazy in the distance.

They watched two little children, a boy and a girl, run along the sand chasing each other. The kids squealed with delight whenever the water splashed up against their feet or when one of them caught the other one. Maggie smiled tenderly at the pair. "That's one of the cutest things I've ever seen," she replied. Justin smiled as he watched them too. "Yeah, I wish I could go back to being five again. You'd have no worries, no stress, no problems. Your biggest decision was which cartoon to watch after school," he replied. "I watch Jonathan play, and I just wish I could go back to that and do alot of things over again," he said as if he was in deep thought.

Maggie sat up and looked him in the eye. "Would you do anything with me over again?" she asked sadly. His face fell as he saw the look of sadness on her face. "Of course I wouldn't, Maggie, except maybe I would've met you sooner, and I'd have you live in Orlando," he smiled. She smiled back at him, relieved.

Maggie repositioned herself so she was sitting on the sand in front of Justin. "Justin, I want to thank you," she said. He gave her a questioning look. "For showing me how to love again. After Ryan, I thought it would be impossible to love anyone ever again. But you came into my life and swept me off my feet, and you changed my life in so many ways. I'll be forever grateful to you for that," she said as a few tears fell down her cheeks. Justin tried to blink away the tears in his eyes. "Thank you for showing me how to love for the first time," he whispered, looking down to his hands. She smiled warmly at him. 'This is it, do it now,' she urged herself.

She took a deep breath to steady her nerves. "Justin, I've gotta tell you something, but before I do, I just want you to know that I love you, I love you so much, more than anything or anyone I've ever loved before, just please remember that, okay?" she said looking him in the eye. He gave her a worried look and nodded. "I'll remember," he said. "Can you tell me you love me?" she asked quietly. He once again gave her a confused look. "I love you, Maggie," he replied. She needed to hear it, she was terrified it would be the last time she'd hear it, after what she told him, and she needed to hear it one more time.

"Okay, now for what I've gotta tell you," she started.
