Great Grandparents
My paternal grandfather - Benjamin Franklin Williams
Charles' father Richard C. Williams is my earliest known Williams ancestor. I first found Richard in the 1860 Saline Co, Arkansas census. He was 27 with a 63 year old Margaret and two young children in his household. I believe she was probably his mother and the wife of the John Williams who had died intestate about 1845 in Hot Springs County, Arkansas. I have not proven that John and Margaret Marks Williams were in fact his parents. If they were, they were married in Hall County, GA. I have just started working on this site- more will follow.
The surname Williams is derived from the Baptismal form, meaning "The Son of William". It has been recognized as one of the commonest surnames. One source states that the surname Williams came into England with William the Conqueror (1066), the first Norman King of England. William brought much of the culture from Grance. The Williams Coat of Arms, bearing the French fleur de lis, shows the French relationship to the family name. The Motto is translated; "He who has suffered, has conquered". William Williams received a grant of land from the King of England on September 18, 1759. The land grant contained two hundred acres along Brown's Creek in Union County, South Carolina. He and his son, William II, are listed in the 1790 Census of Union County. They were with a group of settlers who came into the up-country of South Carolina in 1755 from Virginia and Pennsylvania, and before that from Connecticut, and originally, from Wales
The following is the will for the above mentioned John Williams who may possible be the father of my Richard C Williams.
