DRYMOUNTING- This is the permanent process by which your poster is
heat sealed to a mount board. It's purpose is
to keep the poster from wrinkling and waving inside of the frame from gravity pulling it down.
This will really improve the looks of your framed poster, however, your $200 dollar star
wars poster will now be worth $10 if you do so. Pretty much all value will be lost! It is worse
than having it lamenated. If you purchase a poster because you like the movie or stars and don't
care about retail value, then i encourage you to get it drymounted. If you are a collector, the best thing is to keep it rolled in a tube, but don't pack it too tight. Just keeping the posters in
display sleeves will cause damage.
MATTING & GLAZING- If you wish to further enhance your framed poster by matting then you must have it drymounted. The glass will not lay directly on the poster. That will make it crack, wave and wrinkle even more. You may have heard that it is bad for the poster to lay directly on glass. This is true only under extreme conditions like high humidity. If this worries you, then I suggest Non-glare glass. This glass has been acid treated and allows air to flow between the glass and poster. Now you can get UV protected glass. I know that Aaron Brothers has inexpensive uv glass, of both regular and non glare. Also keep in mind that matting will raise the price of the framing job. And be sure to get acid-free matting or else your poster WILL yellow.
