It can be
very difficult to find Sailor Moon CDs, especially now
that most of them are out of print and the TV series is
over. Your best bet is a local anime store, but my town
doesn't have one. Neither does any town within a 3 hour
drive. It's safe to say that I don't get to these very
often. Online stores are a god-send! So, I've listed some
of the best places to go to find just what you're looking
for!
What SonMay Is
Sonmay
is a bootleg CD provider based in Taiwan. Most SonMay CDs
are the same as the originals, with the same pictures and
all, but sometimes with extra tracks. SonMay also makes
its own collections. Since the CDs look similiar, it's
often hard to distinguish the two from Online pictures
stores provide. Most stores, however, will tell you that
the CDs are SonMay or illegitimate copies. A good way to
tell is that SonMay CDs are generally $15-16 (don't pay
more for them! It's a rip off if you do!) while the legal
Japanese CDs are about $30-$40 because of import costs.
Usually, I wouldn't condone bootlegged CDs, but anime CDs
are very difficult to find if not domestically released.
After spending so much on my legit songbox, I decided I
could justify buying a few from SonMay. That's a decision
you'll have to make. Now, at least, you can weigh the
options.
Anime Nation
Wow! They have legit CDs for anywhere from $19.95 to
$39.95. Also, they have the legit Music Box for $174.95
(it's a little pricey...) and the SongBox for $119.95!
They also have Musical Soundtracks.
Vengence of Excalibur
(V.O.E.)
They used to sell legit CDs, and they might again
someday, but they don't for the moment. The only song box
they still have is a SonMay version (I guess they sold
out of the other one!). Still, they have lots of SonMay
CDs from every series, including Sailor Moon, The
Slayers, and Vampire Princess Miyu!
Firefly Animation
They have some legit CDs ranging from $25-$40 each.
Anime Music Connection
They have lots of SonMay CDs for under $16. Some of them
are only $9.50.
CD Now
They have all the North American CDs, but that's all.
They're about $12.99 each.
E-Bay
This is difficult, because often people out there are
willing to bid way too much for Sailor Moon and anime
merchandise, making it hard if you're on a fixed budget.
Also, most of the time the people selling the items don't
know much about the products and can't accurately
describe it. Many times the seller doesn't know that they
have a SonMay edition. Your best bet is to e-mail the
seller and ask for a serial number. SonMay's serials
always start with "SM" "GA"
"GGG" or "GAME". Legit CDs usually
have "COCC" or "COD" in the number.
The NA CDs have "R" for Kid Rhino Records.
