State Police have charged an 18-year-old Coudersport man with the shooting death Saturday morning of Kane Police Patrolman Steve Jerman. Timothy James Williams of Marvin Hill Road has been charged with criminal homicide, aggravated assault, and other offenses. (One report says that Williams had been drinking heavily). State Police say that he was the driver of the car that officer Jerman stopped on Route 66 just south of town shortly after four in the morning. Although mortally wounded, Jerman managed to shoot and seriously wound Williams.

The funeral service for slain Kane Police Officer Steve Jerman has been scheduled for 8 o'clock Wednesday evening in the Kane High School auditorium. Friends may call there, beginning at 6 pm. The funeral service will be conducted by four ministers and will be broadcast on WLMI. The service will be carried via in-school video to the gymnasium where it will be projected on a large screen for any overflow people to watch.
A funeral procession will follow at approximately 9:30 from the high school into Kane, up Fraley Street and south past Southover Park where Jerman was shot, then back to the high school. Several hundred police officers are expected to attend to show their respects.
Meanwhile, flags are flying at half staff, and adults and young people are wearing red "say no to drugs" ribbons.
