Norma Jeane Mortenson Baker was a true beauty who became a blond bombshell we all knew and loved as Marilyn Monroe. It was a tragedy when Ms. Monroe died at the young age of only 36. We all loved her, some, now more than ever. Her legend will always live on for years and years to come.

Born Norma Jeane Mortenson on June 1, 1926, Marilyn Monroe spent the first seven years of her life in a foster home. She went to work in a factory inspecting parachutes where she was discovered by an Army photographer promoting women aiding the war effort.

A feature in Yank magazine soon followed and in 1945 she signed with Blue Book Modeling Agency. When hired in 1946 as a $75 a week standard player at Twentieth Century Fox, she selected for her surname her mother's maiden name which was Monroe. Her first serious role came 4 years later in the Asphault Jungle.

Marilyn Monroe's career as an actress spanned 16 years and 29 films. She died August 5, 1962. Marilyn once said- " 36 is great when kids 12 to 17 still whistle" (who wouldn't whistle at her! at any age! she is Marilyn!)
