As it turned out the mission was to mount the defensive using the Defiant to get both of them into dominion territory and join the Cardasion resistance.  But Captain Sisko warned them that they might not be very acceptive of their help.
    Radu sighed as he watched Bova shoveling food into his mouth in the mess hall of the Defiant.  Getting up he gave Bova a calm farewell and left the room.  Not that his friend noticed.
    Moving down the hallway Radu made his way to the bridge.  Inside people were going about their duties with an air of determination.
    Silently he moved next to the Captain who sat in the chair at the center.  Something outside the ship caught his attention.  A soft hum, like another ship soon joined by another.
    "Do you pick up any ships on your sensors?"  He asked whoever controlled that station.  A few people jumped, startled at the unexpected noise.
    "No."  Warf answered gruffly.
    Radu frowned.  "But there are at least two behind us."
    This caused a couple of people to whirl around.  "What?!"  The Captain bellowed, making Radu wince.
    He looked at him intensely.  "How do you know Radu?"
    Suddenly self conscienous Radu mumbled his answer, "I hear them."
    "You hear the ships?"  Kira asked in disbelief.
    Something else was happening outside and Radu had to concentrate hard to hear what it was.  Without realizing it he was talking to himself, "Sounds like a weapon charging."
    Thing happened fast.
    "SHIELDS."
    "There up Captain.  Full power."
    "Sound Red Alert."
    Unprepared for the alarms Radu fell to his knees covering his ears, tears streaking down his face.  Then everything went black.
