Tom Tompkins Jr was basically born to race. Born October 9th, 1976, he has been in love with cars all of his life. As a child Tom would literaly shake the house while playing with his toy cars. In 1986 Tom was taken to his first live drag race by his Dad and was hooked from then on. He was nine years old at the time and still afraid of the noise but, after a few more races, often disappeared into the pit area for the day.
As the years progressed, so did Toms desire to be at the drag strip and in 1992 Tom and his Dad bought an Alterd to go racing with. Tom was not old enough to drive yet, so he acted as the teams crew cheif. The team ran mainly at their home track in Hallsville, Texas. At the end of the year the NHRA introduced the Jr Drag Racing League. Well, as fate would have it, Tom got a Jr Dragster. After a hard faught points battle in his first year of driving, Tom finished third in the overall points standings. Toms second year was bitter sweet as he appeared in nine final rounds, "Three of which he won" and qualified number one seven times, the championship was his. With that a life long goal had been fulfilled.
As for the future, Tom is planning on pursuing a career in Pro Modifiied but, has reduced his racing schedule in order to devote the time needed to graduate from college. Tom is earning a degree in Psychology. After graduating in this field, look for Tom to become a main stay in IHRA for many years to come. Tom, who is planning on going into Christian counseling will continue to be a tough competiter for many years to come but, that is not all that there is to Tom Tompkins Jr.
At the age of seven, Tom gave his life to Jesus Christ. Over the past several years he has grown in the Lord and gives God all of the credit for the 1994 championship. He has been attending Broadmoor Assembly of God for the past nine years and is now a youth leader in the Churches youth group. Tom hopes to run his own operation with the help of crew cheif and father, Tommy Tompkins after college under the name "A Child of God".
Be on the lookout for this young racer because he has alot of desire and will stop at nothing to reach any goal he has set. But more importantly, Tom is reaching higher each day to attain the goals of serving Jesus Christ.
