Sarah Michelle Gellar, sometimes credited as Sarah Gellar, began her career when the rest of us were still having trouble tieing our shoes. At the tender age of 4, Sarah was "discovered" by an agent while eating at a local restaurant in her hometown of Manhattan.
Young Sarah didn't start her career as most young
stars her age did. Most young stars begin in a family TV show and, if they're lucky,
gradually coast into Movie magic. Not our girl!! After discovery, BAM!!! Three weeks later
she's on the set of her first film, "An Invasion of Privacy", acting her heart
out. Then WHAM!! Within the same month she also landed a commercial for Burger King.
Sarah is also a veteran of the stage. She has appeared with Matthew Broderick and Eric Stoltz in "The Widow Claire" at the Circle in the Square. Now, although all of her roles in films, commercials, and on stage weren't exactly large or memorable roles, they gave her much needed experience and a nice little portfolio to show producers.
After her time in films, commercials, and stage,
Sarah turned to television where she climbed the ladder to her star status! She started
out in TV as a regular hostess on the TV talk show, "Girl Talk." The show
flopped after the first few airings though. She then went on to appear in more than 100
commercials and became a Wilhelmina Model. After that she made guest appearences on many
TV shows which include: "Spenser: For Hire", "Love, Sidney", "The
David Letterman Show", and "The Regis Philibin Show".
Febuary 24, 1993 dawned with Sarah's first permanent
part on a show. She played Kendall Hart on daytimes Emmy Award winning show, All My
Children. She played Erica Kane's (Susan Lucci) daughter from "hell." She was
the product of Erica's rape attack at age 14.
After her win at the Emmy's, she made her decision
public. She was leaving AMC, the show she was part of for 2 years. She left for the
brightness of California to seek new fame in films or nightime television. Boy, was that a
great idea!
1997 was Sarah's big year!! She began taping the 2nd
season of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and was proclaimed one of TV's 40 Most
Fascinating Stars. IKWYDLS was released October 17, 1997. Scream 2 followed soon after!
She won a Blockbuster Award in the category of Best Supporting Actress in a Horror Film
for her role in IKWYDLS. She also received a nomination for Best Breakthrough Performance
in the 1997-98 MTV Movie Awards for her role in IKWYDLS.
Sarah isn't "all work and no play Buffy."
She's also REALLY involved. She learned to iceskate at the age of three. She came in third
place in a NY regional competition. She also came in fourth place in her division in a
karate championship at Madison Square Garden. She enjoys rollerblading, water skiing,
scuba diving, shopping, and occasionaly goes cliff diving. She has taken Tae Kwon Do for 5
years and is very physically active. |
