Trained by Geoff Wragg in Newmarket, Most Welcome was lightly raced as a juvenile, winning twice from just three starts. He won the Philip Cornes Nickel Alloys Nursery and Pegasus Stakes, both over 6 furlongs at Newmarket.
Most Welcome was the joint 4th top-rated 3yo colt the following year as a result of a series of good performances at the highest level. His only win was in the Select Stakes at Goodwood, Gr 3, but he was runner up in the Ever Ready Derby over 1½ miles at Epsom, Gr 1 (to Reference Point) and also came second to Triptych in Newmarket's Champion Stakes over 1¼ miles, Gr 1. He also came third in the Craven Stakes, Gr 3 at Newmarket.
As an older horse, Most Welcome won the Gr 2 Lockinge Stakes at Newbury and was placed in many top class events, including the Breeders Cup mile (Gulfstream), Gr 1, Sussex Stakes, Gr 1, Princess of Wales Stakes Royal Ascot, Gr 2 and the Gordon Richards EBF Stakes over 1¼ miles at Sandown, Gr 3.
