Chapter 19

CHAPTER 19

The next night...       Nick invited Faith on a boat ride, and she accepted. She was so excited, and we could tell. Nick picked her up at 8, and they went to the dock, where he told her they were going to go to an island about 5 miles off the coast, and eat dinner. They got in the boat and sped away. When they got to the island, Nick helped Faith out, and then said, "Oh, wait, I'll be right back." She patiently waited on the island, and he went into the boat again. He came back out with a picnic basket. The island was 1 mile square, and had a ring of palm trees all the way around it. Faith had walked into the ring of trees encircling the island, and Nick walked over to her and set the basket down. They hugged each other, and suddenly white Christmas lights blinked on. Faith looked around to see that every tree on the island had been strung with white Christmas lights. "Oh Nick" Faith breathed.   Nick smiled. "You like it?" he asked. "It's gorgeous!" Faith replied. "I'm glad you think so." He spread out a sheet in the middle of the island, and began to take things out of the basket. Salad with grilled chicken and little tiny orange slices, two ginger ales, and finally, tall white candles. He lit the candles and placed them on the sand. "Mademoiselle," he said, gesturing for Faith to sit down. She sat, folding her legs under her gracefully. They ate together, and pretty soon, Nick leaned over and said, "Faith, I love you" "I love you too, Nick," she replied instinctively. "Do you really?" he asked. "Yes," she said, looking into his gorgeous eyes. "Well, then, Faith Taryan, will you be my wife?" Her heart melted. "Yes. Yes, I will, Nick Carter, if you will be my husband," she said, tears glistening in her eyes. "I would love that," he whispered. They both stood up and hugged for what seemed like forever. Later that night, after she got home, I was lying in bed, and she was wandering around our room, looking for something. "So, how'd your date with Nick go?" I asked. "Guess what!" she exclaimed. "You're engaged to Nick?" I guessed. "How'd you know?" she asked, genuinely surprised. "Well, you're my best friend. Best friends notice when you act even the slightest bit different. Best friends notice these things," I repeated, "plus, that big diamond on your finger kinda gives it away!" "Well, why didn't you say anything?" "I figured you'd tell me when you were good and ready" "This is so great! Can you believe we came here looking for a summer fling and we're leaving engaged to Backstreet Boys?" she asked. "Nope. I keep feeling sure we'll wake up and this will be some wacked out dream." With that, we shut the light off and went to sleep.
