Chapter 1

"Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to Brian, Happy Birthday to you!"

sang 9 cheering children. Then Brian blew out the 11 candles (10 for his age, and one for good luck!) on his chocolate icecream cake, while making a birthday wish.

It was February 20th, 19__ when 10 best friends celebrated a kind of young Brian's birthday. After the candles were blown out and the cake was half eaten, it was gift time. The kids dodged into the living room faster than you can say "Happy B-Day." Brian ran to the coffee table where his gifts lie.

"Here open this one first, its from us"

Brian's parents said, shoving him a pretty big box. He ripped open the paper to see a cage. The kids gave a confused look to each other. "Open the door" his mom told him.

Brian reached out his hand and unclasped the door of the cage. Out ran a black and white kitten.

"Aww thanks mom, thanks dad" Brian said

After about a ten minute 'petting session' it was on to the next gift. It was from Maria & Sara. Brian grabbed the gift, teared open the paper, then took the lid off the box. It was a basketball. Brian loved basketball. Then Howie and A.J. pulled out another fairly big box. It was a basketball hoop.

Nick handed Brian the gift from him, which was, not so suprisingly, a video game! Kevin and Jan gave him a Kentucky Wildcats hat & jersey, keeping his like of the team in mind. Last but not least was Amy and Nicole's gift, it was an envelope. Brian read the outside of the card when he opened it up he discovered a $50 bill.

To get whatever you'd like" Amy said to Bri.

Brian hugged and thanked his friends and family for the gifts. For the rest of the day, everyone played b-ball, video games, or was with the kitty.
