Beltran Makes push for Rookie of Year
Any Royals fan knows that Carlos Beltran has had a great rookie year. He has been a steady performer all year and has played with an intensity that any fan can appreciate. He has made a number of great plays in the outfield and had 16 assists. In his rookie year he has proven to be a very good clutch hitter batting .294 for the year and driving in 108 RBI. He has done all this despite the Royals woefull team performance and a pitching staff that will break the ML record for blown saves (30).The numbers are there that should make Carlos Beltran the AL Rookie of the Year. This season he accomplished several notable feats.
- Carlos became the first rookie to score at least 100 runs (112)and have at least 100 RBI (108)since Fred Lynn in 1975.
- He became the first rookie to drive in 100 RBI since Mark Mcgwire in 1987.
- He has 27 stolen bases and 22 homer runs making him the third Royal to ever do that.
Carlos's main competion is Brian Daubauch of Boston, Zimmerman of Texas and Hudson of Oakland. All of them had fine years but there numbers just do not compete with Beltran,s. It will be interesting to see if the baseball writers recognize Beltran's accomplishments while playing for a lousy team. If the writers look at the stats then Carlos should win the award easily.
