What I do for a livin'.....

I'm employed as a wiring technician, building control systems for Remote Operated Vehicles.
These vehicles are used mainly in the offshore oil industry, fulfilling tasks such as rig support,
pipeline survey and remote intervention.

The following series of pictures are some examples of what I do.

These first few pics show views of electronics chassis fitted to one particular class of vehicle.
The three above are of a camera control chassis, having the capability to control up to 9 cameras
and using video switching, transmit the images from any 5 through a fibre optic link to the
surface control console.

The three views below are of a lighting control chassis, dealing with varying the intensity of the
light circuits that the vehicle has. Poor visibility can adversely affect video image quality by
causing back scatter from the particles in the water if too much light is shone upon them.
As underwater visibility can vary, light output must also be variable.

The four images below show various views of the control console. This station handles the
vehicle controls, video recording and video distribution to other stations on the vessel or
platform that the system is launched from.
