Amtrak

New Orleans, LA

Amtrak operates 3 trains in New Orleans; the Crescent (NS), Sunset Limited (UP), and the City of New Orleans (IC/CN). Amtrak also has a large engine facility located next to the Superdome stadium, along Earhart Expressway in downtown New Orleans.


A morning shot taken at North Shore, approximately 5 miles from the Amtrak Crescents first stop in Slidell, LA. The wooden trestle has been replaced with cement pilings.

Rounding 16 Mile Curve in Waggaman, LA is Amtrak 719, a pair of P-30's, on Amtrak's Sunset Limited train #1. Not much has changed here on the Sunset Route with the exception of AHM-103's instead of P-30's.

An inspection train prior to the advent of the Gulf Coast Limited, was operated from Mobile, Alabama to New Orleans over the L&N. The train is now in New Orleans and has just cleared the CSX yard in the distant background and the Industrial Canal bridge in New Orleans East.

The first day of operation for the eastbound Sunset Limited out of New Orleans is just clearing the CSX yard in Gentilly (New Orleans East). This train eventually replaced the Gulf Coast Limited.
