Shreveport is located in the northwest corner of Louisiana right on the Texas border. The UP has two yards in Shreveport, one the former MP yard on the west end of town and the former SP (SSW) yard is located downtown and along the west bank of the Red River. The biggest show in town is the KCS. The hugh Deramus yard is north of town near the town of Blanchard, LA. The former MidSouth yard in Bossier City is also a smaller KCS yard that serves local industry and serves as a crew change point for the Transcontinental line. KCS trains from New Orleans, Atlanta, Dallas and Kansas City all converge on Shreveport making it a KCS hotspot to say the least. One thing to remember about Shreveport is that it is sort of reserved (one casino boat and few bars) while it's sister city across the river, Bossier City, is where people go to party (three casino boats and lots of bars).

A busy double track mainline runs through the heart of downtown Shreveport, serving both the KCS and UP (former SP). This westbound train is headed for Deramus yard on Sep 29, 1996.
