St. Mary Parish Louisiana Home Page

St. Mary Parish was established in 1811 from Assumption Parish. The parish seat of St. Mary Parish is the town of Franklin.

The state of Louisiana's name is derived from the the name Louisiane which was in honor of King Louis XIV of France. Louisiane was originally a French Territory.

Louisiana's nickname is, "The Pelican State." The capital of Louisiana is Baton Rouge.

Louisiana entered the Union on April 30, 1812 as the 18th state.

In 1861 it became a founding member of the Confederate States of America
