Moment of Truth
Sai groaned loudly as he watched Sage
and Kento glarring at each other angrily.
Ryo was outside practicing and Rowen
was fully involved in his computer. Which left him to save
the day.
Sighing he stepped between them,
"Please, not in the house."
Sage actually seemed to growl, "Then
we'll take it outside."
He watched them slid out the door
and followed cautiously. By the time he made it outside, both had
blood dripping down their faces but it was the broken vase, his mother
had made him that set his anger off.
-------------------------------
Kento felt himself thrown to the ground
and was surprised when Sage joined him. Seeing a flicker of surprise
cross Sage's usually blank face made him very slowly look up. What
he saw made him swallow hard around a sudden lump in his throat.
He forced a slight laugh from his
throat, "Uh, hi Sai. Something wrong?"
Sai's sea-green eyes had darkened
to a stormy grey, his normally open face was closed off and shadowed while
the wind whiped his long, auburn hair around his head. He seemed
nearly demonic.
"Leave." The voice was soft
but sharp as glass.
Sage sat up a little, "What?"
Kento blinked as Sai, in a blur of
motion, hefted Sage up by the shirt and slammed the swordsman against the
house's wall. A shiver ran down his spine at the barely surpressed
anger in his best friend's voice.
"Sage. Let me put it another
way. Either you get out of my sight or I'm going to cause you major
damage. Comprendez?"
Kento wasn't sure what he was expecting,
fireworks maybe, but not Sage's reply.
"Uh, sure Sai. Just let go of
the shirt and we'll leave."
Two seconds later Kento found himself
in Sage's new car, pulling out of the driveway at breakneck speed with
Sage at the wheel.
--------------------------
Sai's body shook as he took in the
broken pottery. With jerky movements he made his way back to the
kitchen, turned the stove down, ripped off his apron.
"Sai?"
He cast a glance over his shoulder
to see Rowen and Ryo. Fixing an icy gaze on Ryo he spoke softly.
"I want to borrow your motorcycle."
Ryo hesitated only a few seconds before
taking the keys out of his pocket and tossing them to Sai.
Rowen looked worried, "Where ya goind
Sai?"
Sai pushed by them, heading up to
his room. "Out."
Getting to the room he shared with
Kento he quietly shut the door and moved to his bed pulling out a locked
box. Finding the hidden key, he opened it and pulled out it's contents.
A pair of tight black jeans, a sleeveless button-up white shirt, a black
jean jacket and a pair of black sunglasses. With quick ease he slipped
the outfit on along with his black boots.
Gripping the keys tightly he made
his way to the front door. Noting the astonished looks on Ryo's and
Rowen's faces he grinned preditorially, without explaination, and left
the house to get the motorcycle.
-----------------------
Rowen eyed the clock it was nearly
one in the morning. Ryo, Sage, and Kento were sitting on the couch.
The second Sage's car had pulled into
the driveway Ryo had gone into lecture mode. That had been at eight,
and Sai wasn't back yet.
-----------------------
Sai exited the bar, temper having
cooled completely. He started towards Ryo's bike when he heard a
slight yell a little further away. Picking up his pace he rounded
a corner to find a woman being mugged. Without hesitation he stepped
forward throwing the man off and telling the woman to run.
The mugger growled as he got to his
feet and as he lunged, Sai caught sight of a knife too late. But
he felt it as the cold, metal sliced across his stomach. Grabbing
the mugger's wrist as he completed the move he brought his forearm up underneath
the arm's elbow joint, breaking it. They seperated and the mugger
growled at him before turning and running.
Sai pulled his jean jacket over his
wound and buttoned it before getting on Ryo's bike and driving home.
-----------------------
Rowen shook his head as Sage and Kento
arguing again, this time over who's fault it was in making Sai mad.
His eyes met Ryo's and he watched Wildfire roll his eyes skyward.
"Can't you two stop fighting for just
a little while?" The voice sounded tired but it was definitely Sai.
Everyone in the room looked up at
they're friend and when Rowen saw his pale complexion and tense stance
he couldn't help but frown. "Something wrong, Buddy?"
Sai's smile was weak, "Just the fact
that two friend's are always at each other's throats. And, um, sorry
about getting angry."
Kento cleared his throat. "Not
a prob. Sai it was our fault not yours."
Rowen felt alarms sound in his head
as he saw the auburn-haired boy sway on his feet and he just managed
to reach Sai's side before he collasped.
------------------------
Sai felt strong arms around him and
smiled slowly. "I got into a bit of a fight." He felt Sage's
hands unbutton his jacket and a gasp came from the swordsman. "I
think I finally understand... some fightings necessary after all."
------------------------
"How is he?" Kento asked Sage
the moment he came out of their room.
"He'll be fine... but..."
"But what?" Kento asked, both
Rowen and Ryo asking at the same time.
The swordsman shook his head in uncertainty.
"Not sure... he kept mumbling something about seeing the truth..."
Kento's eyebrow rose. "Wonder
what he meant."
Sage shrugged, "Who knows, moptop."
Kento glared at him, "And WHAT'S so
wrong with my hair?"
"Maybe the fact that you have fleas."
-----------------------
In his bed, a sleeping Sai smiled
softly at the sound of friendly banter.
