Time in a Bottle
November 13, 1965 - November 10, 2000

Evie Speaks in Purpl

Hi, my name is Eva Stephanie delaCroix.

I'm a 34yr-old nurse. I own several snakes and a couple of kids;)
I'm into 70's rock,astronomy,and wildlife conservation.
Especially interested in the Wolf Recovery Program in Idaho & Yellowstone.
I love to read, everything from tabloid trash to the works of A.Conan Doyle.
I'm really into Dragonlance books. I own about 60 titles.

I am 5'1" tall.
I weigh 120 lbs.
My body would best be described as Ruebenesque.
Small breasts,tiny waist,hips like a brood cow.
I have waist length dark auburn hair with bangs.
I've worn it this way since 1st grade.
My eyes are green, but the right one has a HUGE gold spot in it.(i hate it)
I wear glasses.

I was born and raised in Bayou Sorrell, Louisiana

My favorite color is moss green.

I am newly married.

I have three children:
Joel, 20 - born September 1,1980
Levi, 14 - born July 28,1986

Miriam was born August 30, 1984 and died October 19, 1990
Miri would have been 17 on August 30th, but she died of cancer when she was 5.

I live Off hwy 221 in Banner Elk,NC. If that's not listed - I'm 17 miles south of Boone. I can see Grandfather Mountain from my home, 2nd highest mountain east of the rockies.

A Quotable Quote...

My great-grandmother used to say, "when you look for a man you look for the same traits you would want in a good dog - you want one that can stay in his own yard without being tied to the porch."

Now that I'm a lot older, I understand and agree.  1/00

On whether she had found her calling...

A decisive yes!
As a nurse, I help the sick & injured heal, assist new life into this world, comfort & give dignity to the dying, care for those who can no longer care for themselves. I feel that every day of my life is validated by my work.  1/00

On the significance of the name "3moons"...

My KP name (i use it elsewhere, too) - 3moons - comes from a series of books called Dragonlance. They are set in a world called Krynn, where dragons, elves, dwarves, kender, ogres, etc. live. Magic rules in this world and is governed by the forces of it's 3 moons - Solinari (white-good), Lunitari (red-neutral) & Nuitari (black-evil). These 3 moons must maintain balance between their mages power so that harmony is maintained. I guess my facination stems from the simple wish that we had something to keep us balanced & in harmony.  1/00

If you were to decide that "the time had come," what music would you play as your heart beat its last?

Freebird by Lynard Skynard

On death...

As a nurse, I see a death at least once a week. What I have seen has made me fervently hope for a sudden death. I want to be standing at the Pearly Gates looking around, saying "What the **** was THAT?!"  The death that affected me most profoundly was that of my 5 year old daughter. During her illness, the compassion of her nurses convinced me that was my calling. I've been a nurse 6 years now and have never regretted it, even though I see some terrible things. I am always aware that even if the patient can't be saved, their family & friends can be helped to deal with their loss. It is a rewarding profession.  1/00

On the right to die...

There are 2 forms of euthanasia recognized in the medical field (remember I'm a nurse). They are "passive" and "active" euthanasia. "Passive" euthanasia is practiced every day. Examples are witholding antibiotics in severely burned patients and allowing infection to take a mortal course, witholding artificial ventilation on patients with a living will, and Do Not Resusitate orders on the terminally ill. These are just a few examples. From here it's simply a matter of persons in favor of "active" euthanasia making their voices heard. I know most of my peers and even some of my patients are in favor of the right to die movement.

Trust me,there are MUCH worse things than death.Acceptance of this is inevitable.  12/99

On a "turning point" in her life...

If you remember me, I've told you I'm a nurse & I answered the "right to die" question eagerly. I became a nurse at 28; 3 years after the death of my 5 year old daughter. She had good doctors, but to them, she was just a diagnosis.I actually heard one of them refer to Miriam as "the terminal in 416B". But the nurses cried with me, cursed God with me,asked "Why??" with me.They made a profound impact on my life. And one day, when I had healed some,I realized I could make that same impact on other lives. And I am very proud to say I have. And that fact gives meaning to my life & meaning to my child's death, also. She was not "the terminal in 416B"; she was a brief visitor that showed me the way to myself.  12/99

On snakes...

I have a snake & it's SUPER important to wash your hands after handling Lizards, turtles & almost all herps carry Salmonella; worse though, some from South America can carry Listeria -- there's a nasty little bug. Anyone @KP into boas, let me know. I have no one to talk about her with, 'cause here in the rural Fl panhandle ppl think you're VERY strange if you like snakes.  1/00

On her hair...

My hair has only ever had 1 style. Waist length, red, curly. A braid if it's windy, ponytail if not. Long & loose if I'm trying to impress someone. My friends say "long hair is too hard to take care of", but they are the one's with blow dryers & curling irons. I don't even own those things. No mousse, hairspray or gels, either. So who's a slave to their hair? I think I've got this one licked, never had a bad hair day in my life.  1/00

If she could be a character from a book...

i don't know if y'all read Dragonlance tales, but if you do...i want to be the kender, Tasslehoff Burrfoot. He is immune to fear, has no concept of " that's mine", and is simply at peace with who and what he is. I'm totally envious.  6/00

On becoming aroused...

OK - how's this for wierd; the rain makes me instantly aroused. EXTREMELY aroused. There's something about the power & rawness of a storm. Rainwater has a vey sensuous feel on the skin & if you're very still, you can feel thunder thrum through your body. The best sex for me standing against tree in the middle of a storm. And if it makes me a pervert, it's ok. God'll probably strike me with lighting;)

But,I hope He let's me climax first.  6/00

if she could move anywhere in the world...

West Glacier,Montana. It is the only place I've been that literally took my breath away.  6/00

On hunting...

I love to hunt.
I always eat the meat & have the hides processed. I do trophy hunt. It is contest. Almost a dance. Those huge 14 point trophy bucks didn't get that way being stupid. They are the strongest, smartest, wilyest of that area. I have watched smaller bucks in season walk by because my freezer was full -- but if that trophy had stepped out...  6/00

On whether it's ok for a Boy Scout Leader to be gay...

Jeez, it's damned near impossible to find positive male influences for boys today, Then - when you find a guy who wants to be a Scout leader-people want to know about his sex life. It's stupid. And I think I'd be safe to bet that heterosexual pedophiles WAY outnumber homosexual pedophiles. Anybody who's got the stats on that-post 'em please. Thanx   6/00

Describes herself in 5 words...

the only ME there is   7/00

On KnowPost...

...you can ask and answer questions without fear of reprisal if someone doesn't agree. I also love knowpost because I love to learn, and that seems to be something all us posters have in common. Sometimes just "to know" is all I need. I may never use that piece of knowledge, but I KNOW it.

On what she considered a threat to National Security...

our government's penchant for helping everyone but ourselves. For example, I do feel sorry for people who lost their homes to war in other countries, but what about those Americans who lost their homes because their job moved to Mexico without them? We send medical help all over the globe, but have "working poor" who have to use the local ER as their kids pediatrician because they can afford neither insurance or office visit fees. The US government frequently helps others in ways it could better help it's own.

On the greatest food ever...

a T-bone.Bleeding.Mooing.Oh,yes,yes,YES....Uh,sorry,lost it for a sec there.

On what mystery she would most like to solve...

If there really is a merciful God, Why do good people wind up in nursing homes fingerpainting in their own feces? This has bothered me ever since I became a nurse. It seems like a pretty poor reward for a life spent in worship & service.

On whether certain songs cause an emotional reaction...

Being a "delta child" from Mississippi a lot of my favorite music is southern rock.Lynard Skynard's "Down South Jukin'" always makes me feel up, where Freebird makes me cry because of the first line, "If I leave here tomorrow, will you still remember me?" It's been a long time, Ronnie Van Zant, but yes, we remember.

I am a genie. Your wish comes from the song lyrics you post. You get to live the life, or experience the experience that inspired the song. Post it and it will become your truth, you live what the song says, you live in that moment. I will grant you up to three song "wishes".

I only have one wish song. It's off Lynard Skynard's new cd Twenty.

None Of Us Are Free

You can listen,my brother
If you do,you can hear
There are voices still calling
From across the years.
They're crying across the ocean
They're crying across the land,
And they will
Til we all come to understand

chorus
That none of us are free
None of us are free
If one of us is chained
None of us are free.

There are people in the darkness
And they just can't see the light
And if we don't say it's wrong
Then that says it's right.
We've got to feel for each other
That our brother's know we're here
Got to get the message
And send it out loud and clear

chorus
That none of us are free
None of us are free
If one of us is chained
none of us are free.

It's the single truth
we all need to see
if one of us is chained
none of us are free.

Well I swear to you Salvation
isn't very hard to find
None of us can find it on our own
We've got to all join together
Spirit,heart & mind
That the souls that are suffering
Are not alone.

If you'd just look around you
You will see what I say
Cause the worlds getting smaller
Each passing day.
Now it's time we make some changes
Now it's time we realize
That the truth
Is shining right before our eyes
That none of us are free...

On what happen at the moment of death...

I sincerely hope that it will be like turning off a light switch or blowing out a candle.
What was is no more.
Fini.

On the meaning of Freedom...

Freedom to me is the knowledge that I am recognized as a human being, and treated the same.

On what she is passionate about...

learning. If I were to lose the ability to learn new things, I hope I'd have the dececncy to shrivel up and die somewhere.

On supernatural experiences...

Years ago, friends and I tried a Ouija board. It said I would die on October 27,1987.
I'm still here, but I stayed in bed that day!

On why "love means never having to say you're sorry...

It's even more important to say i'm sorry to those you love than those you don't.

On what she would like God to explain...

Explain and justify suffering, pain, misery, etc. Especially in children.

On what she finds sexy...

I have waist length hair.
Always have & I find it very sexy when my lover strokes it or twirls it around his fingers.

on what lost possessions she misses the most...

My daughter died when she was 5, the following year we had a fire & all my photo albums were destroyed. The only pics I have of her now are the ones from my Mom. The albums weren't worth any money, but to me, they were priceless.

On how to make lemonade out of lemons...

Granny used to say life was like boiling water, and people could be eggs or potatoes. Boiled eggs are hard-shelled, but crack easily, while boiled potatoes are soft and can be molded. Either you can let life make you hard and brittle, or you can become moldable, and shape yourself to what life requires of you.

On the color of her eyes...

The left one is a dark green, The other is green, but with a big gold splotch in the iris.
I hate it.

On whether KnowPost is an addiction...

God,I need a fix. Ask me something! Anything!!

On clothes around the house...

cut-offs & a tank top. Bare feet. When I put on shoes, my feet think they've been bad!

On walking in the grass...

I was raised in Louisiana. My toes are wide apart. Granny says it's so I won't sink in the mud ;) Really when I put on shoes,my feet wonder what bad thing they did to be punished so bad.  8/00

On her favorite fruits and vegetables...

Fave fruit-richard simmons....just kidding.
Kiwi
Least fave fruit-apple
Fave veggie-broccoli
least fave-squash (YYYUUUUCCCCKK)  8/00

On falling asleep...

My brain "races" sometimes at night, so I have to do the equivalent of making "white noise" inside my head. I have memorized all the countries of the world, from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe. I say them in order & "write" them on the sheet with my finger. I usually fall asleep around Senegal.

Her description of her home town, including it's look and feel...

I am from Bayou Sorrel,La. Near Baton Rouge. It was very much a Cajun town then. If the wind was out of the west, the smell of Etienne Thibbodeux's moonshine would make your eyes water. Voices speaking English, French, or that bastard mix we call "da bayou" always sounded like laughter to me.

I remember Mass being this huge social occasion. Our church sat on a slough & there used to be more skiffs in the canal than cars in the parking lot. Food was a huge part of life there. Food for weddings, wakes, christenings, etc.

The scent of boiled shrimp or red beans & rice always smells like home to me. And even tho' it's been 25 years since I went home, the lilt of a Cajun accent still facinates me. And my grandfather still won't answer to anything except 'Andpere. My mother's brothers are still Oncles. And my children are still 'tites (short for petits,or little ones).

I wouldn't live there again tho'. That Eva Stephanie de la Croix is gone. This one will be in NC for a long time.

Are you afraid to die?

No, I am not afraid of death.
Some days the thought that I must go on living is terrifying, though. No don't schedule an intervention, I'm ok. I just think that living is much harder than dying.

hat she wishes had never been invented...

Life support technology.
If this had never been invented there could still be death with dignity instead of the fear you'll wind up like Karen Anne Quinlan or Nancy Cruzan.

Her favorite Hot Dog Condiment...

Being from "da bayou" country-definately Tabasco sauce.
And don't bring me none of that generic stuff either.
Tabasco or bust!

Her "personal credo for living"...

...and this too shall pass.Live it that way.

Something she learned "today"...

...that you can close a cut with sugar.
...that the little plastic sleeve on the end of a shoelace is called an aglet  8/00

Evolution, fact or fiction...

Fact.
And evolution continues.
I think that's why a growing number of infants are born without tonsils or an appendix.
Because we are evolving past our need for these organs.

On gun ownership...

I own 41 guns. I collect them.
Yes the public should have access to guns. My children are very good marksmen and are well educated on firearm safety. Responsible ownership is what we need to strive for. Sometimes I think that knowing most Americans have a firearm in their home is what's kept wars on far shores rather than here at home.

Description of herself...

I am 3moons
waist-length dark red hair (forever)
5' 2"
118 lbs
blind as a bat's green eyes
freckles (but not lots)
BTW-that's me over there with my nose in a book.  8/00

On cultural diversity...

I think the diversity of our country is wonderful. I grew up in Cajun country in Louisiana, and when I left there it was like moving to a new country. Nowhere else on earth can you find people of such radically different cultures accepting each other so well.

Sure we have "straw bosses" who think they speak for everyone of their culture, but the fact is dicontented assholes come in all cultures and if we want the good, I suppose we must tolerate the bad as well.

On wasted food...

My man loves French bread. Unfortunately he is the only one who does, so it always ruins. If I could figure out a way to use that moldy bread it would be great, 'cause I hate to waste anything.

On which "famous person" she would like to have sex with...

Sean Connery. Nuff said.

Her favorite saying...

Hold fast to dreams, for if dreams die, life is a broken-winged bird that cannot fly - Langston Hughes
Down home saying - Happier than a pig in shit.

And comforting a despairing, fellow KnowPoster...

Everyone cries at one time or another. And I PROMISE that it won't last forever. Even the worst storms are followed by rainbows, bro. Yours is coming. Make sure you don't miss it. What reality is it that brings the tears back? Can you change that reality?  Please, talk to someone.

On her car...

I own an 82 Toyota truck. It has over 250,000 miles on it & they're ALL MINE! Her name is Yoda & she's painted Army camoflage. Been beat up, rolled over, & on one memorable occasion in Bigfork, Mt, on fire. Best money I ever spent. I think they've incorporated cockroach DNA into Toyotas - 'cause you just can't kill'em!

On what is SACRED to her...

My children's trust that I will always do the right thing for them. Whether it's getting a Marine buddy to teach my smallest how to deal with that damned bully down the road, or helping my oldest boy choose his college courses, or telling my daughter it was ok to "go" as she lay dying (shit, now i'm bawlin').
Anyway that trust is sacred and I would die before I broke it.

If she could be a fly on the wall at any one historical event, which would you choose and why...

Can my fly be trapped in the Magellan probe? To see other worlds would be a dream come true.

On why people assume the worst about others...

If we assume the worst about everyone else - it means we can assume the best about ourselves.

On why people "cheat" in relationships...

If someone who says they are in a happy relationship cheats - they either don't understand what "happy" is or they lie to themselves as well as their partner.

On appropriate punishment for a pesron that gouged out a cat's eyes and lesft it for dead...

Smear them with tuna & put them in a locked room with 50 starving cats. if they survive, do it again. I know it's not realistic, but it's what they genuinely deserve.

Advice to a KPer with a Mom in law problem, sends gifts to biological kids, but not to step grandkids.

If this bitch's name is Grace L.- run!
Sounds like my ex's mother. When we got together i had a 4 year old. Then we had a daughter and son. Grace would bring gifts to Miri & Levi, but not to Joel. So,one year I discovered my balls and returned her gifts, telling her that 3 little ones lived there & to come back with 3 gifts graciously given or to drop dead. I even told her I would like it better if she chose that 2nd option!

On the essence of cheesecake...

it's the closest you can get to orgasm without sweating!=)

Her recommendation of good Sci-Fi/Fantasy reading...

Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern is my all time favorite series.Start with Dragonflight & I promise you'll be looking for others. And tell Lessa & F'lar "hi" for me when you get to Pern.

On the motivation for rape...

I don't believe rape is just a crime of agression. I have seen the results of rape several times, and it seems to me rape is about power and humiliation. The desire of the rapist seems to be to emphasize to the victim. I am stronger than you and I'll take what I want from you.

I have seen hideous things. One of the ones that struck me the hardest was a 19 year old stranger rape where the victim was forced to perform fellatio after the perpetrator had sodomized her.She had brushed her teeth several times but our swabs still recovered fecal matter from her mouth. That proved to me that rape is about humiliation.

Answer about what kind of roadkill is in your area...

Groundhogs, squirrells, and possums are the high country's fave sacrifices to the highway god. I live in NW North Carolina. Our elevation here is just under 4,000 feet.50 miles east and you're back down to sea level almost. There road kill seems to be mostly cats for some reason.

As for what savia said about people running over road kill, I was unable to avoid a dead raccoon down in La, and a bone cut my tire and I lost control & had a wreck. My son still has an ugly scar on his neck & face from that.

So, never, never, never run over a dead animal.

On spending one night with a Celebrity...

hubby & I have agreed.
He can have one night with Michelle Pfieffer & I get one night with Sean Connery.
I hope Sean doesn't forget the Viagra! :-)

Her Humor!
On whether someone can actually "fly"...

with the correct LSD to body-weight ratio--anyone can fly! Swing by my house, I want a fly-by!

Advice she gave to a woman who discovered she was pregnant.  The woman is an adult, but the relationship is new.  The asker is considering an abortion...

My fist son was born when I was 14.
I was not ready to have a baby, but too selfish to place him with parents who WERE ready.

He is 20 now, and though I have turned my life around, that poor child went through hell in his early years. I understood far too late the consequences of my decision. My son has just completed rehab for the 3rd time, and in my heart of hearts, I fear he will never be free of the drugs. He was raised by an ignorant child who TAUGHT him the druggie lifestyle, and by the time I got my shit together at 30, he was already far gone.

So please, no matter what else you do try to make your decisions based on what will be best for this child.
I wish I had had the good sense to do that.

If you do decide on abortion and don't tell your boyfriend, then NEVER tell him. If you choose to make this decision alone, then carry the knowledge of it alone, too. There will be less hurt that way,I think.

I wish you the best, luv, and will be thinking about you.

On what her current medical problems are...

I have Hepatitis C, contracted from a blood transfusion after a BAD car wreck in '84.
So far,I'm not on the transplant list, but I'm sure I'll get there.

When was the last time you rode in a wagon?

Last Saturday-Pioneer Day.Even had a matched pair of mules pulling it.Cool, huh?

On the greatest innovations, to date:

Penicillin-the wonder drug. Now damned near every pathogen known to man is resistant to it.

 Answer by 3moons on 8.12.00 12:08 PM
Definately NOT, dear. My hubby likes mornin' quickies (so do I). He calls it drive-by-p***y. ;-) ...as in I got some drive-by _____ this mornin'.

What things gives you gas?

cucumbers. I can't even eat them. They make SURE I'm dying.

On her lava lamp...

I love them. Mine is on a table beside my aquarium, and I swear my fish watch it, too!

On children's toys...

I confess.
I have a HUGE collection of Legos.
They are just the neatest thing to me.
And no, I don't let my kids play with them.

Her favorite bedsheets...

I love these sheets. I wash my sheets and put them back on. These have a sort of bayou scene by moonlight. They are black, silver, and blue and show the moon reflecting off water beneath trees draped in Spanish moss. They were ungodly expensive - but I love them!

Comments on housecleaning...

The kitchen is clean. The rest is "lived-in". And it's all Knowpost's fault.

About trusting a car to start in the morning...

Yoda will start every time! I'll bet you all 3. I have a little over 250,000 miles on my '83 toyota, and it's been the best money I ever spent! That little truck is one of the most dependable things in my life.

If you could commit murder, and nobody found out about it, you would get no punishment from your fellow man and none from God, who would it be and why?

Evie's answer:
I DID shoot him, unfortunately the bastard didn't die. I didn't have to worry about getting caught, because I had 42 fractures in my face when I did it. The judge told Mike that even if he had died I would not be going to prison. Sometimes I think of smashing myself in the face good and killing him. With our history, I know I'd get off.

When I was a kid, we had a orange grove behind our house, and there was a legend that "Old Lady Orange Grove" lived in there and killed kids. In a nearby city called Irvine, there was a similar story involving "Old Lady Irvine." Did anyone else have an "Old Lady ___________"?

Yes, the "Bayou Witch".
She lived in the swamps and killed kids who went roaming around where they shouldn't be.
Kept me in my yard til I was about 10.

On "naming things"...

My '83 Toyota pickup is named Yoda. I guess the why is obvious. How is I name EVERYTHING. One of my cuter quirks, I think. And yes, I call her by her name in public. I refer to her as "her" or "she" too,and that seems to get stranger looks than her name. I wonder why that is?

Tell me if I am wrong or right on this. All opinions will get a 5. I want as many opinions as possible. Should visitors to elderly relatives give them cigarettes?

An elderly lady, 79 years old. She has smoked all of her life, since she was 14. She is at the point where she can only use 10% of her lungs. She has to take oxygen in from a machine. And she STILL sneaks and smokes, when she can get them. Sometimes one of her grandchildren will give her cigs, but he doesn't come around much. Now she has asked another one of her grandchildren, my boyfriend, to pick them up for her. Otherwise, she has to pay a cab driver $65 for $20 worth of cigerettes, they are robbing her blind. She says that this is her one joy, that he must do it for her. I say that if he does, he is just contributing to her death, and that if he is so concerned about her happiness, he should visit her more often, or even take her out. He's really torn over this. What do you think?

Webmasters comment:  This entire soapbox is so interseting, I thought I would include a link to it here:

Evie's answer:
I am a nurse and I see this every day. These people have lived and done for others and now they are old, and are being punished for getting there.

Yes, no smokes, no salt,no sweets, no fat, no cholesterol...IS a punishment.

When I'm that old anyone who wants to deny me a priviledge I've earned just by surviving life is going to have one hell of a fight on their hands.

(...excuse the ranting, this just is one of my pet peeves.)

On what she would do with a million bucks...

Go back to school.
Maybe for forever, as long as the money was there to pay my living expenses, I could happily be a professional student.

Asked 8.12.00 4:38 PM
One is one thing you have neglected to tell your son or daughter that you are soo proud of them for? You know, that thing that they did, that just made your heart sing, brought tears to your eyes, but you never got around to telling them how proud of them you were, for whatever reason.

 Answer by 3moons on 8.16.00 1:15 PM
I've never mentioned it because he doesn't know I saw it, and I don't want to embarrass him -
my son was 16 when he and his 10 year old brother went with me to Walmart. My youngest apparently put a toy in his pocket, and Joel took him around the corner. I peeked, and watched Joel take the toy from Levi and tell him about shoplifters going to jail.

I was SO proud, but if I had said anything, I think I would have spoiled an important moment for these brothers.

And speaking about her beloved Miriam...

Asked 8.12.00 7:35 AM
I consider myself to be a happy person. I have a wonderful husband and a beautiful child. Every day I look at them and feel such happiness that its overwhelming. I thank God everyday for such a wonderful family. I have no reason to gripe about my life.

The only problem is that I constantly worry that they will be ripped away from me. I constantly worry about death and losing my loved ones. I don't take my family for granted but its almost the other extreme. I appreciate them too much that I am terrified of losing them. This fear just about eclipses the happiness.

I know its normal to have these fears now and then but for me it is CONSTANT. What can I do? Why do I worry about it so much that its almost an obsession?

Evie's Answer:
I lived where you are every day for a long time.
I had a beautiful daughter who had a nosebleed that I couldn't stop at home, so we went to the ER.

Four hours later my baby girl was admitted and we were discussing what we were going to do about the huge tumor in her head.

Two days later we were discussing what to do about the fact that that tumor came from another tumor in her leg. Over the next few weeks we learned of the cancers in her lungs, liver, and spinal cord.

Eight months later she died at home, in her own bed, with all her family, friends, and pets there.

I became a crazy woman.
If one of my boys LOOKED wrong to me, we were at the hospital. I was SURE I would lose them, too. I finally sought professional help, and came to understand that all the worrying in the wourld cannot prevent cancer (or any other tragedy), but it can ruin your life and the lives of those who love you.

Don't let this anxiety get out of hand.
If your fears are hurting you or those around you,get help.
I'll be thinking of you.

About her preference in sleeping arrangements...

I like to sleep in the same bed, but I don't really do the cuddle thing very well. I have a king-sized bed and he sleeps on his side & I on mine for the most part. I do like the sound of him breathing next to me. And sometimes he'll put his hand in my hair, I like that, too. When I'm in the mood to sleep alone, I "accidently" fall asleep on the couch, reading.

Granny's revenge...!!

..."REVENGE!! I want evil, despicable ways you have taken your revenge on someone who did you wrong. Be brutally honest..."

This is a true story.
My grandpa worked offshore in the Gulf and had a habit of "stepping out" on my Grandma. She packed his clothes to take out to the rig and she put Red Devil lye and water in his shoes. It dried in there, but when his feet got wet, the lye reactivated (or however that works) and Grandpa wound up with open sores on his feet. They kept getting worse and his feet wound up being scarred for the rest of his life.

Grandpa told me that Grandma said to him  ..."now every time you see those feet you'll think about what it means to step out on me, and the other places I could have put that lye..."

He wouldn't say, but I'm pretty sure Grandpa was a good boy after that!

On silly pet quirks...

I have a 7 year old Golden Retreiver who loves to fetch sticks for you. But he's old and has had work on both hips, so now, after a few throws, he's tired. And to signal that the game is over, Trouble lays down and EATS the stick!

PS: dilbert.Wanna trade dogs?

On Medical Marijuana...

I think marijuana should be decriminalized, and alcohol should be outlawed.
I've seen a shitload of accident victims that were drunk, but never one that was intoxicated on marijuana.  It's especially bad when the victims are teens. For some reason they tend to have more devastating accidents.

Evie's first conscious memory, as a child...

I was to be 3 in afew weeks when the first tropical storm of my life hit us. It wasn't as bad as those storms can be, but I clearly remember the wind SCREAMING around the eaves of our old house. The sound of the wind and the smell of lantern fuel are my earliest memories.

On naming pets "human" names, and peoples reactions to those names...

I had an Afghan Hound named Madelyn for 14 years. I have also had a Maine Coon cat named Timothy. I don't know why they got people names and all the other pets had to make do with names like Trouble and Gizzard, but somehow, Madelyn and Timothy fit their names.

Strangest pet/animal name she ever heard...

My ex has a beautiful Malamute named Diogi. If you say that fast you'll see that it's D-O-G. I'm sure sometimes that dog is embarassed at that name.

Describing her childhood in 3 words...

Cajuns, food, music

What is your favorite animal and why? Did you ever get one of these animals or do you collect something to do with this animal?

There was a letter-writing campaign to save the wild elephants at my school when I was a kid, and I've loved elephants ever since. I collect them: wooden, ceramic, glass. I have hundreds (anybody wanna come dust 'em?).

Her feelings on animal experimentation...

I hate animal experimentation with all my heart, but I also realize the neccessity of it. There have been so many important advances in medical science that could not have happened without animal experimentation. I personally think we should be allowed to use death row inmates in some studies. In some cases, I think the end does justify the means.

Her favorite meal, if "anything" is available for preparation...

Shrimp and crayfish jambalaya, cabbage with pulled pork, and cornbread.
Don't forget the iced tea (or the rolaids).
