the forever candle...

On how many times she has been in love...

Once. I let him go & didn't see him again for 10 years and the feeling was still there.
We have been married for 23 days now!

It's a new, wondorous, beautiful day. Tell me the weather in your area, Get up, look out your window or go outside. Come on, do it! If it's raining or whatever, close your eyes and experience nature, then come back in and tell me about it!

Answer by 3moons on 8.14.00 8:40 AM
It's 8 am here in Banner Elk, NC.
The valleys are full of swirling fog and it's only 51 degrees.
The locals are predicting an early winter.
The sun is shining though, and it really is beautiful here.

On Peanut butter and __________sandwiches and how to eat alligator...

Banana. Real good stuff.
And Tehuti, luv, you eat alligator with mayo on dark wheat bread.
Everybody knows that!

Her favorite dessert...

French Vanilla ice cream with pralines (pecans roasted in honey and brown sugar).

Did your parents read to you as a small child? What is your favorite memory of being read to, or your favorite children's story?

My Grandmere read to me a lot. My favorite story was Watership Downs.
'Anmere read a chapter each night til it was finished and I still ask my kids "Have you gone tharn?!", when they do something silly.

Granny used to sing/say this one to me when I was a little girl:

Winken, Blinken, and Nod.

Winken, Blinken, and Nod one night
Sailed off in a wooden shoe --
Sailed off on a river of crystal light,
Into a sea of dew.
"Where are you going, and what do you wish?"
The old moon asked the three.
"We have come to fish for the herring fish
That live in the beautiful sea;
Nets of silver and gold have we!"

Said Winken,

Blinken,

And Nod.

The old moon laughed and sang a song,
As they rocked in the wooden shoe,
And the wind that sped them al night long
Ruffled the waves of dew.
The little stars were the herring fish
That lived in the beautiful sea --
"Now cast your nets wherever you wish --
Never afeard are we";
So cried the stars to the fisherman three:

Winken,

Blinken,

And Nod.

All night long their nets they threw
To the stars in the twinkling foam --
Then down from the skies came the wooden shoe
Bringing the fisherman home;
'Twas all so pretty a sail it seemed
As if it could not be,
And some folks thought 'twas a dream they'd dreamed
Of sailing that beautiful sea --
But I shall name you the fishermen three:

Winken,

Blinken,

And Nod.

Winken and Blinken are two little eyes,
And Nod is a little head,
And the wooden shoes that sailed the skies
Is the wee one's trundle-bed.
So shut your eyes while mother sings
Of wonderful sights that be,
And you shall see the beautiful things
As you rock in the misty sea,
Where the old shoe rocked hte fisherman three:

Winken,

Blinken,

And Nod.

On facial hair, on men, HER men...

I have always loved the feel of a beard on my skin. All my lovers have had beards. And I think men with beards look much more passionate and masculine than those without.

Question about ...has anyone lost a child and if so does it get any easier?  - it has been 15 months and it is not any easier...

My daughter died of cancer at the age of 5. She would have been sweet 16 this coming week. The pain of that loss never leaves you, but in time it gets easier to bear.

I was given a newspaper clipping after her death that read: There was a parade of children in Heaven. They were carrying candles and singing in the streets, except for one child, who stood off to the side looking sad. The other children ran to her and said, "Why don't you come with us?" ...and the child answered, "I can't. Every time I light my candle, my Mom and Dad put it out with their tears."  I WON'T cry since I read that. I want her light to shine.

Do you have anyone to help you through this? If not, please find someone to talk to. I would have gone crazy without someone to talk to. C-mail me.

IMPORTANT-if you have other children, don't forget about them in your grief. My oldest son actually told his teacher he thought I was angry at HIM for not dying.

On where she "draws the line"...

Right in front of me and mine.
And my 30.06 will be the judge of if that line's been crossed.

On the sounds in life that she loves and hates...

I love the sound of a cat purring from the foot of the bed while I'm drifting off to sleep.

I hate the sound of a mechanical ventilator.
My daughter was on one, and I am around them at work;and that hiss is the sound of despair.

If heaven exists, what do you want to hear God say when you arrive?

I'm sorry. I NEEDED your daughter for...

Her favorite cuss word...

I used to like shit.
Now fuck seems to be the word of the day, so I combine the two.
If I need to cuss, SHIT-FUCK!! works for me.

If she could change one thing about her body...

I would lose the freckles.

What is the sweetest, kindest thing anyone has done for you?

My very elderly neighbor, Louisa Thibbodeau cut down her grandaughter's prom dress so my daughter would "have somethin' special" to wear when we all lay her in God's arms".

On special memories from childhood...

I was raised by my Granny, and every night she would read to us. Not "baby" stories either; but ones like Watership Downs, The Red Badge Of Courage, The Call of The Wild, etc...   Sometimes I can still hear her voice and the squeak of her rocker. She gave me a love of books that has stayed with me all my life.

Her sexual orientation, for the record...

When I was 17, I had a 7 month long sexual relationship with another woman. We even lived together. I must admit, the sex was incredible. Then one day Patricia told me she thought she was falling in love with me and somehow that made me realize I'm straight. So what category does that put me in?

Deer season is just around the corner and its time to get out the gun and do some target shooting. I have run out of old hub caps for targets.  Any ideas for some new targets: keep in mind shooting from 100-150 yards?

A square bale of hay to back an old hide is what I use. That way my target is deer size and color. The hay is a safety measure, After passing thru that the slug has lost almost all velocity. Another plus is that this set-up is really cheap. Good hunting to you,and if you bag a trophy,we wanna see pix!

Her Pets...

I have a 7 year old Golden Retreiver named Trouble in Paradise (his mother was Caramel Paradise), a 5 year old Manx cat named Gizzard, and an 8 foot red-tailed boa named Takhisis. I also have a 14 year old boy named Levi--boy free to good home.=-)

On whether or not to circumcise...

for all the pros and cons out there, I have nothing to say except that there has never been a case of penile cancer in a circumsized male. If a simple procedure can prevent cancer, it's worth it in my opinion.

More on animal experimentation...

I believe that animals should be treated humanely where possible, but I will not lie -- If there had been a cure for my daughter's cancer possible thru animal experimentation, I would have personally been raising mice and stealing puppies. The welfare of the human race will always be paramount in this debate. The term "necessary evil" applies here.

Evie, on whether motorists should warn other drivers of "cops in the wings"...

In cases where the cop is hiding out behind bushes or something, I think it's only fair to give a head's up. And here in the South, cops are notorious for speed traps. So us poor red-necks have to stick together. Funny thing, I'll head's up other pick-ups, old beaters and such -- but those Beamers and Jags are on their own. So I guess I'm looking out for folks who can't afford those OUTRAGEOUS fines.

On what's hiding behind her back...

Did you see me hide it or could you smell the smoke?
I'm busted! Bummer!

On snow...

Yes, it snows here. I'm in the Blue Ridge Mts in northwestern North Carolina. There are 5 ski resorts within a 1/2 hour drive. It's strange to me, I'm not used to it yet. I've lived here less than a year and hadn't seen snow since 1984.

If you went to the hospital to have some blood drawn and the phlebotomist came in to do the draw and he had a tattoo on his face and neck and a nose and eyebrow piercing, would you allow him to draw your blood? would you be frightened? what would you do?

My youngest son was a preemie and the only phleeb who could "get" him every time looked like Elvira (mistress of the night). Jet black long hair with a pompadour in front and enough make-up for 10 women, but she was damned good at her job. I'd let him stick me.

Her all time favorite piece of clothing...

I have a pair of button fly Levi's I've owned for about 8 years. They have a hole in the seat now, but I wear them anyway. They feel like an old friend.

Her all time favorite comedian...

Definately George Carlin. He makes you THINK while you're laughing.

If she had given birth to twins, a boy and girl, what she would have named them...

Phoenix and Phaedra

and Joel, this is for you...

i think the place my son gets them is called cheatcodecentral.com

If you were to open Evie's CD player you would most likely find...

Lynyrd Skynyrd's Second Helping

Here's a Lynyrd Sknyrd Jukebox

Go ahead and listen...

On liking wild game as food...

I was raised on game meat.
I love venison. And where I grew up, in central Louisiana, we ate coon, possum, armadillo (which we called possum-on-the-half-shell), and alligator. Not just the tail either; we ate the whole damned gator! And you can't beat the neck and backstrap of a young gator for good eatin'!

Which would you rather have, a used Volvo, some Birkinstocks, and a copy of Al Gore's book; or would you like a new Harley Davidson, good weather, and a case of Coors beer?

The Harley, good weather to ride somewhere beautiful in, and cold beer to drink when we get there...you ARE coming with me aren't you?

Upon being asked for a quote about death...

The wailing of the newborn infant is mingled with the dirge for the dead.-Lucretius

Her worst "air travel" story...

In 1984, I flew from Ft. Lauderdale to Atlanta. The flight itself took only about an hour, but at Atlanta we were told by the pilot that we were in a "holding pattern" .We circled the airport for almost 2 1/2 hours.(I truly thought that the airport was just overly busy) Then the pilot came back on to tell us our nose gear was jammed half open and we were making a belly landing. I'm not ashamed to tell you that I was so scared that when we landed alive I was literally SICK with relief.

But I can also tell you I wasn't the only one with puke on my shoes.

It was 7 years before I flew again. Amtrak and I became real good friends.

Gore vs Bush?

I am voting for Gore because I don't believe Nader has a chance, and Gore is the lesser of two evils.

Boxers or Briefs?

I prefer boxers, especially silk or flannel ones.
I'm really into textures.

Favorite beer?

Corona, hands down the best beer ever brewed.
I like it ice cold with a wedge of lime.

49 days before her passing....

What would you like to have read at your funeral, or your wake? Poetry, song lyrics, bible verses...

Evie's answer:

I know it's rather odd, but my request would be to have the refain of a poem by Michael Williams read at my wake.

It is used in a series of fantasy books called Dragonlance.
It is the song that is used to honor dead warriors (Huma being the Most Honored)...

Return this soul to Huma's breast
Beyond the wild,impartial skies;
Grant to him a warrior's rest
And set the last spark of his eyes
Free from the smothering clouds of wars
Upon the torches of the stars.
Let the last surge of his breath
Take refuge in the cradling air
Above the dreams of ravens where
Only the hawk remembers death.
Then let his shade to Huma rise
Beyond the wild,impartial skies.

I just love the idea of the "cradling air" and having the "last spark" of my eyes "set upon the torches of the stars". That's all I could ask for. No afterlife or eternity, just cradles of air and torches of stars.

Sounds very peaceful, doesn't it?

About Gizzard...

His name is Gizzard and he's 5 years old. He was neutered about 3 years ago because he wouldn't quit fighting. When I took him to the vet to have his ear & eye repaired after a particularly bad fight, we decided to "fix" him. He is a manx and one of the funniest things he does is play with other animals tails. He sometimes licks at his nub like "I KNOW I should have one of those long twitchy things back here like the neighbor's cat has!" He sleeps in bed with me at night, which is the only time he wants to be loved on. He spends his days chasing chipmunks and sleeping. He's my buddy.

Her favorite suspense movie...

Primal Fear, The Sixth Sense, and Rear Window are great movies.
The end of Twelve Monkeys was a shocker to me. That Bruce Willis' character was there both as a child and a man just blew me away!

Least favorite...

The Fight Club.
I hate the movie just because I've watched it 3 times and the end still gives me a HUH? feeling.

On individual freedoms...

I think it's simply that those individual freedoms are what makes Americans truly free.
In reality most people in the world are free (as opposed to being in servitude or slavery),but only to an extent.

How many places in the world are you free from persecution NO MATTER WHAT?How many capitals can you demonstrate at knowing you are not only able to voice your greivance, but will be protected while doing so?
It's our individual rights that set us apart from the pseudo-democracies of the rest of the world. It is unthinkable to give that up.

On muzzle loaders...

I am a hunter and gun collector, in my opinion, as far as accuracy goes, you would be better off taking up bow hunting. My muzzle loader is the only gun I can't hit anything with. It hangs on the wall and looks good, but that's all it does.

Good hunting to you.

On whether we can trust our government...

Of course we can trust our government. Ask any of these satisfied people:

1) native americans
2) farmers
3) anyone who's bought a home built over a toxic waste dump
4) the Weavers (ruby ridge)
5) any taxpayer that's not a millionaire
...when you finish with these, I bet more satisfied customers will be falling all over themselves to sing government's praises.

On whether she has a nickname...

Yes, but only my Granny can use it.
Anyone else gets a fat lip.
My nickname is Cookie.

The song that always get her pumped up...

The song that always "gets me off so good"is Sweet Home Alabama by Lynyrd Skynyrd.
It is the unofficial Southern Anthem, a guarenteed GET ROWDY song!

Usually followed by the Southern Female Mating Call:

..."HEY ..Y'AAALLLL, I'M DRUUUUNNKKKK!!"

On whom she most resembles in her family...

None of them.
My folks are dark haired with dark eyes, and I have red hair, green eyes and freckles.

I'm scared to death that I'll go home for a visit and one of our old neighbors will tell me all about that redheaded mail man Mom had an affair with!

About organized religion...

I have read the Bible, graduated from parochial school, and attended Mass faithfully for years. It gave me no comfort or enlightenment. All I have found is that historically, religion has been the reason for ATROCITIES worldwide. So,I have no use for religion.

Things always in her frige...

1-sweet (whole) milk
2-sweet tea
3-lemonade
4-Tabasco
5-box of baking soda
6-Mountain Dew (yes I am addicted!)

Just out of curiosity, does anyone else say sweet milk? Or is that just a Louisiana saying?

Where we goin' on a spur of the moment car ride?

We're going to Trashcan Falls.
It's a lovely double waterfall on the Watauga River. It's just off the side of the road and anyone can get there with ease. The only catch is the NCDOT says we can only use it as a "hangout" if we keep it clean, so everyone that parties there has to bring a trashcan, fill it up, and take it with them when they leave. Get your can & let's GO!

On what first attracts her to a person...

Okay, I confess; I'm strange.
I'm into hands. I like rough, workworn, MASCULINE hands.
A man who works with his hands is very sexy to me.
Next is posture.Someone who carries themselves confidently and comfortably is attractive to me.

A quote she likes...

He who hides himself from bloodshed and evil is powerless to do anything about them.
To conquer your foe,you must FACE it.

Her 3 most HATED foods...

When I left my Granny's house there were 3 things I swore I would never eat again:

boiled okra
chitlins
brains and eggs

...so far, I haven't been hungry enough to change my mind.

The perfect sandwich in perfect detail...

Okay,let's see...
Honey wheat bread
Miracle Whip
Spicy brown mustard
Tabasco
Roast beef (not the deli kind; leftovers)
Ham
Bacon
Dill pickles
Vidalia onion

Darn,now I'm STARVING...

Here's your opportunity to RANT!!

Ok,here goes...

I work in an ER. I do this because I genuinely love what I do. The other night at 4 am,we got a VERY drunk MVA victim in.He came in fighting, too. It took ALL our ER staff, 2 security, and a police officer to get him on the gurney. As we were restraining him, he broke one nurse's collarbone and my nose and left orbit (eyesocket).

I got patched up and went home. Last night, I got a call from MR. Drunkard's ATTORNEY. It seems he suffered "emotional distress" from being "strapped down like an animal"!

WTF is that sh*t?!?!

He HURT Sonia and I. We will both miss several weeks of work, and be in considerable pain for a while and this sack of sh*t is talking about suing us!?!?  I hope this bastard doesn't survive his next MVA. It will be a burden off this world if so!

Asshole, bastard, sonuvabitch!!!!!

ok, I feel a little better.Thanks!

Favorite foods during a Sunday game...

Well,it's NASCAR on Saturday rather than a Sunday game;but the food is hotdogs with Tabasco, cold Coronas, and Tums!

On watching people die...

As a nurse since 1990, I estimate I have seen better than 5000 deaths. Some are easy, some are hard. Some tragic, some welcome. I have seen people die screaming, praying, cursing, crying, begging...and on & on.
Sometimes I hope I die a quick death (instantly in an MVA) ...and sometimes I hope I can have family and friends around me.

But either way, I don't think I'm going to enjoy it.

...If I was to get a tattoo to remind me of you, what should it be and where should I put it?...

A crescent moon - near your heart.

;-)

Things she'd buy if money was not an issue...

1) 64 1/2 Mustang Shelby.
2) Land rover
3) 55 T-bird convertable

Describe yourself in ONE word...

resilient

Favorite "chillin'" song...

Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay by Otis Redding.

Favorite Pop song...

Does 3am by Matchbox20 count as pop?

Favorite Rock song...

Molly Hatchet's Fall of the Peacemakers

Favorite Love song...

Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd.

Her opinion on abortion...

Personally,I could never have an abortion.
But I promise you I've seen situations where abortion (and sterilization) should have been mandantory. Like the case where a friend up in OB caught her patient, who was in active labor, smoking crack in the stairwell. You and I are supporting that severely disabled child now. And her mother can still get pregnant again.

An elderly gent found a dead newborn in his shed near here last week. The mother has been arrested, and has stated that she wanted an abortion but was unable to get one. Wouldn't it have been better for that little boy to have never been born than to die of exsposure alone and uncomforted?  I firmly believe that abortion is NOT an evil thing.

If abortion were more readily available, there would be less cases like the one above. And I know this will be an unpopular opinion, but I would rather my tax dollars paid for abortions through Medicaid than be used to support 3 generations of crack babies.

On allowing the death penalty...

Yes. There are pros and cons to every issue. But the simple fact remains that now that he has been executed, Ted Bundy will NEVER kill another Kimberly. He confessed to over 300 murders ,trying to bargain for his life. He escaped from custody and murdered after that escape. His death is the ONLY way we will know our daughters need not fear him.

So, I guess my answer is simply - Yes, I believe in the death penalty because death is the only SURE rehabilitation.

On leaving tokens at a gravesite...

For a time,as a teen,I lived in Macon,Ga. with my Aunt.
In Rose Hill Cemetary are the graves of Duane Allman and Berry Oakley, who's passings hit me as hard as the suicide of Kurt Cobain hit my son. A group of us would gather at the graves and get high and sing Allman Brothers tunes. We always left the roach for Duane and Berry.

Favorite flower, and it's significance...

The lily.Especially the one referred to as the easter lily.
The scent reminds me of the water lilies that grew in the bayou when I was a girl.
The perfume I wear is Waterflowers, and it smells just like it's name.

On whether counseling is beneficial...

After my daughter's cancer was diagnosed, our whole family saw a counselor. After her death we began to see a grief counselor. On bad days, I still call Jean, and yes, I think she saved my relationship with my sons, my sanity, and my life.

Her most embarrassing moment...

It would have to be riding a bus across Metro Atlanta and realizing after I got off and walked the last 3 blocks that my skirt was stuck in the back of my pantyhose!

If she could have chosen her own name...

I was named Eva for my father's mother, but I would have rather been named for the grandmother who raised me,Naomi Rose.

Her earliest Home Town memory...

I remember a tropical storm that hit my town. I was about 3 years old and the wind was like a live thing. It shreiked, screamed, and howled all day and night.

I don't remember that I was afraid, just that it was happening. But,I guess I must have been for the memory to stay with me so long.

Her favorite perfume...

I wear Waterflowers. It's a scented oil.It smells like lotus blossums.
It calls to mind those beautiful beds of water lilies that grew in the slough behind my house when I was small. They were magic to me.Something so beautiful that thrived in such a still, dark place.

Childhood playmates, pets, and favorite things to do...

I grew up in a house that was bordered by a slough, a cemetary, and 15,000 acres of sugar cane. My best friend was Michi Reubeneau. My Granny read to me as a child and Michi and I acted out those stories. The slough was our ocean, and we searched for Moby Dick, and guarded each other so we didn't go mad like Captain Ahab. The sugar cane field was the jungle where my dog Luke played Bagheera, Baloo, and Shere Khan. And in the masoleums and crypts of the cemetary,we played house. Our house was usually Tara, and we fought over who got to be Scarlett.

God, I haven't thought about that stuff in YEARS! I wonder what Michi's doing right now?

10/17/00
On whether she wanted yo be buried or cremated...

Personally, I want to be cremated and the ashes used to fertilize a newly planted tree. The tree should be a bald cypress.

As to "eternal fate",I think there is none.

Death is the end.

On what she wanted to be when she grew up...

I wanted to be a "torch singer".A la Billie Holiday.
What I became is a nurse. But I love what I do and wouldn't trade it for anything else!

What was the single best sexual experience in your life?

It was on the rollercoaster The Scream Machine at Six Flags Over Georgia.I slid onto his lap with my skirt pulled up...

On what she is like to sleep with...

Much as I would love to give you a thousand reasons why you'd LOVE to sleep with me; I'll be honest and tell you that you'd hate it. I sleep all over the bed, I AM a devout blanket hog, I talk in my sleep, and I've been told I snore like a 300 lb drunk man.

God, now my reputation as a sex goddess is ruined forever! LOL........

If you had to choose the single most valuable thing you ever learned, what would it be?

Bad shit happens to good people, and good shit happens to bad people. It's the way of the world and you can't let it eat you up inside.  10/31/00

On her new eye...

Hi all. Just a note to let y'all know I've been paroled. I am at home.
Just before I was discharged, the tech came to match the color for my prosthetic eye,and I've been thinking...
Now is my chance to choose...

Should I have them match my eye or give me one like Liz Taylor's drop dead georgeous violet?
Or maybe Brad Pitt's cool light blue?  Or...?  Any suggestions?

My patch is dark blue with a daisy.I'm gonna use this opportunity to make some fashion statements!

Thanx again for everything guys!
luv, Evie

To sic on the neighbors-mako shark!

If you could go back to someone in your past and apologize for just one thing, who would it be and what would you apologize about?

In 4th grade,I threw a rock at Armentine Prejean and made her bleed. Believe it or not,it still bothers me that I did that. I think I'll see if I can get her phone number and call her...

When asked if anyone had ever died in her arms...

My daughter. And by the time she died,it was a blessing. Her hurt, confusion, and helplessness were over.

She was 5 years old,and a vicious cancer ate her alive. She was aware and ready, and being there changed my life forever.

Her last words were: ..."I'll be okay, Mommie. Kiss Dwubble..." (our dog Trouble)

I hope I manage to die with that much grace.
