2002 Football Signees Include Huge Linemen
1. Marcus Lindsey, 6-7 330 OL, Wossman HS Monroe, La. 4-year letter winner for Coach Charles Smith. Led team to 1998 & 2001 district championships, all-district, all-NE Louisiana, & honorable-mention all-state as Sr. Also played basketball and participated in track & field. Chose Tech over LSU, Arkansas, Texas A&M, and Southern Miss.
2. Jordan Lang, 6-5 305 OL, Garden City CC, KS. Led team to the runner up title in the Kansas Jayhawk Conference for Coach Bob Larson. 2nd-team All-Jayhawk Conference. Chose Tech over Kentucky.
3. Ira Horyna, 6-4 310 OL, Coffeyville CC, KS. 2X All-Jayhawk Conference selection for Coach Jeff Leiker. Led team to the 2001 Heart of Texas Bowl champions.
4. Jeremy Batiste, 6-3 310 OL, Gulf Coast CC, MS. Mississippi JuCo All-Star, Honorable-mention all-state JuCo lineman, Top 30 JuCo player in Mississippi. Member of Moss Point HS 1997 Class 5A state title team. Chose Tech over Miss. St, Memphis, & Marshall.
5. Ryan Considine, 6-5 280 OL, Martin HS Arlington, TX. 1st Team all-district for Coach Ronnie Lawrence.
6. Darius Livingston, 6-4 280 OL, Jones CC, MS. Preseason JuCo All-American, also named the top offensive lineman among all MS JuCos.
7. Lacorey Street, 6-7 320 DL, Gulf Coast CC, MS. Mississippi JuCo All-Star. All-state and all-district his senior year in HS, named MVP of the state playoffs his senior season. Also played basketball and ran track & field. Junior Olympian in Europe in the shot put (55.2 meters) & holds the Mississippi high school state record in the shot and discus events. Chose Tech over Mississippi, Memphis, & Southern Miss.
8. Ladarius Love, 6-3 320 DL, Jonesboro, La. Will play as a true freshman. 4-year letter winner for Coach Shannon Brown. All-district 3 times & all-state twice, also named all-NE Louisiana in 2001. Named as one of Louisiana's top recruits by Louisiana Football Magazine, academic first-team all-state. Played basketball for Jonesboro-Hodge averaging 24 points & 14 rebounds per game, all-district in basketball three times. Chose Tech over Mississippi & West Virginia.
9. Anthony James, 6-5 250 DL/TE, Istrouma HS Baton Rouge, La. 3-year letter winner for Coach Troy Jones. 1st-team all-district Sr season, caught 43 passes for 635 yards. Chose Tech over Auburn.
10. Steve Brown, 6-3 230 TE, Independence CC, KS. Honorable-mention All-Jayhawk Conference, John C. Pittman Basketball Player of the Year in junior college.
11. Ike Ihekweazu, 6-2 230 LB, Elsik HS Alief, TX. 3-year letter winner for Coach Bill Barron, all-district, all-academic honors. Ranked among Texas' top 10 linebackers in 2001, recorded 115 tackles & 8 sacks as Sr. Recorded 90 tackles & 10 sacks as Jr. Also ran track (10.8/100 & 50.4/400). Chose Tech over Texas A&M, Iowa State, Iowa, & Houston.
12. Terence Alexander, 6-1 224 LB, Breaux Bridge, La. 3-year letter winner for Coach Mike Mowad. Led team to back-to-back district titles Jr & Sr seasons. District 5-4A Defensive MVP, 3-time all-district, 2X all-state, & 2X All-Acadiana team. Recorded 135 tackles, 6 tackles for loss, 3 sacks, & 2 forced fumbles as Sr. Chose Tech over Southern Miss, UNLV, & USC.
13. Greg Hollins, 6-2 210 LB, Walker HS New Orleans, La. 3-year letter winner for Coach Frank Wilson. Led the Chargers to the 2001 District 10-4A title. 1st-team all-district as Sr & 2nd-team all-district as a Jr. Recorded 63 tackles, 13 sacks, & scored 2 defensive TDs Sr season. Chose Tech over Southern Miss, Cincinnati, & Alabama-Birmingham.
14. Ralph Davis, 6-1 215 RB, Jones County CC, MS. Led Jones to the state title. Rushed for 1,334 yards on 212 carries. Most valuable offensive back in the Mississippi JuCo ranks, All-state & All-Region. In HS was 1st-team all-state and all-district running back & all-district linebacker his Sr year. Chose Tech over Virginia Tech & Michigan State.
15. Ryan Moats, 5-9 195 RB, Bishop Lynch HS Dallas, TX. Will play as a true freshman. 3-year letter winner for Coach Gary Oliver. Led Bishop Lynch to 2001 district title. Texas Private School 2001 Player of the Year, first-team all-state. Ran for 2,646 yards, 33 TDs & 9.2 yards/carry as Sr. Bishop Lynch's all-time leading rusher with 4,782 yards and 56 TDs. Texas TAPPS 5A state champion in the 200 meter & 4x200 meter relay. Chose Tech over Texas Tech, UTEP, & New Mexico.
16. Jason Thomas, 6-5 190 WR, Lakeview Centennial HS Garland, TX. Two-year letter winner for Coach Flint Reisen. 1st-team all-district as Sr. Recorded 38 receptions for 613 yards & 7 TDs, also played basketball and ran track. Chose Tech over UTEP & New Mexico.
17. Chris Norwood, 6-1 180 WR, Hinds CC, MS. WR as Soph & QB as Fr. at Hinds, all-district WR in 1999 & team MVP as Soph. Also ran track in high school, recorded a 20.9/200 and a 10.5/100. Chose Tech over Southern Miss and Memphis.
18. Joshua Odums, 6-1 180 WR, Mansfield, La. 4-year letter winner for Coach Dale Morvan. Led Mansfield to the 2001 district title, all-district and all-state as Sr. Caught 36 passes for 12 TDs as Sr while also recording 7 INTs! Chose Tech over LSU & Tulane.
19. Lewis Carter, 6-1 180 WR, Richwood HS Monroe, La. 4-year letter winner for Coach Greg Williams. Led the Rams to the district runner up title. 3X All-district, 2X All-NE Louisiana, 2X honorable-mention all-state, & district offensive MVP in 2001. Rushed for 1,252 yards & 19 TDs as Sr and rushed for over 1,000 as a Jr. Chose Tech over Auburn & Southern Miss.
20. Eric Newman, 6-0 185 WR, Oak Grove, La. 4-year letter winner for Coach Vic Dalrymple. Led team to the 1999 & 2001 Class A State titles, all-district 3 times & all-state honors 3 times, all-NE Louisiana twice. Named the district MVP in 2001 as well as the all-NE Louisiana team offensive MVP in 2001, preseason high school All-American by CBS Sports. Rushed for 1,770 yards & 21 TDs as Sr. with 221 yards receiving. Also returned punts & kickoffs registering 5 TD returns.
21. Ricardo Jeanlouis, 6-2 185 DB, Loreauville, La. 3-year letter winner for Coach Kirk Crochet. Led team to 3 straight district championships. 1st-team all-state & all-district as Sr, MVP of district, all-district & All-Acadiana defensive MVP as Jr., 65 tackles & one interception.
22. Orlandus Williams, 5-11 185 DB, Coffeyville CC, KS. 2-year letterman for Coach Jeff Leiker. Helped lead the Red Ravens to the 2001 Heart of Texas Bowl championship. Honorable-mention All-Jayhawk Conference, recorded 89 tackles. Chose Tech over Wyoming and New Mexico.
23. Dez Abrams, 6-0 185 DB, West Monroe, La. 2-year letter winner for Coach Don Shows. Led the Rebels to 2000 state 5A title & 2001 state 5A runner up title. All-district, All-NE LA, & All-Louisiana. 50 tackles & 3 INTs as Sr., also ran track.
