Intergra Type-R DC-5 Acura RS-X Aerokit

Interview with Dijon Cars / 5Zigen

Behold, a sneak peek at Dijon Cars' 5Zigen Integra Type-R in its transformation from carpet queen to track monger. Currently, the Integra Type-R has been in the country for a little over a couple of months making its way to many local So. Cal shows as well as important industry trade shows. After laying our eyes on this car at SEMA, we contacted Alex Chang who happens to be the "official test driver / monkey" for AKT USA (5Zigen USA) to have him fill us in on the specs:

STOCK 2002 HONDA INTEGRA TYPE-R SPECS:

220PS (217HP) @ 8000 rpm
20.0kgm (152 ft-lb) @ 6500 rpm

5Zigen's Integra Type-R is pushing more than the stock 217HP that is mentioned above, but the details behind that are classified at this time. What we do know about the engine is that is does indeed have Toda Racing internals. Currently it has high-lift camshafts along with forged pistons and connecting rods all courtesy of Toda Racing. Before it enters the N1 Plus (N1+) class racing next year the entire car will be stripped naked and prepped in favor of race-only setups. Future plans include: a race-spec roll cage, a more agressive engine management system, revised exhaust (currently for street), plus an overhaul on the engine, gears and suspension. The only things that will remain the way you see it here is: 1) The body. 2) The body kit. 3) The Dash. 4) Probably the seats...
The body kit is also of special interest. The kit that you see is INGS hybrid fiber glass. This body kit is a little more costly than most because it is made from a hybrid fiberglass blend to make a material that is flexible like urethane. The end result is a 35% lighter material than urethane which is a big advantage in the war in weight and strength. To give you an idea on the price, just the front bumper alone is a little over a G.

And lastly, this Type-R features an interesting little gadget from 5Zigen. The Twin Mode Clutch System. Think of your clutch turned into a little button on top of your shifter. The Twin Mode Clutch System is basically an addition to the existing stock hydraulic clutch system. Whenit is off, the car is driven like normal. When it is turned on, the button on the shifter acts AS the clutch pedal. Depressing the button is the same as depressing the clutch pedal, and the pedal is not disengaged until throttle is applied. Sort of a semi-sequential shifter, if you will. It is activated by an ECU and a control unit, and it is usually mounted in the trunk area for street cars.

To find out where you can see this car while it is still here in the US or if you are interested in any of the products on this car, check out AKT USA and ask for Alex Chang - the official test monkey.

5Zigen just captured the 2001 Formula Nippon Constructors Championship this past month! Check it out!
