Creating Curved Text tutorial

I will create curved text over the roses in this tag.

The thing I love most about PSP is that you can hit your undo button at any time you mess up...which I used a lot in my earlier PSP days......(well....still do!)*winks* or Hit Control Z.

You can use your own or use my rose tag. If you choose to use my rose tag, you will have to save it or just copy it and open it in your workspace in PSP and go up to "Colors"/down to Increase Color Depth, then choose 16 million colors.
Or you won't be able to check your Antialias box inside your "Text Entry" box and your font might look jagged.

After you have it changed to 16 million colors, select your "Shapes" tool.

If your tool box isn't already open, go up and open it now.

In your shapes tool box, choose "Ellipse", "Retain Style" checked, "create as vector" checked.

Now on your tag, drag the circle over your tag that you want to create curve around.

Now if your box isn't positioned just right, you can put your cursor directly in the center of the box and move it around. Your cursor will change to 4 arrows when you have it directly in the center. If you want to adjust your circle some, just use one of the boxes that surround the vector box to adjust it where you want your text to go.

Make sure your "Background" color is set to null.
Click and hold down on your "Foreground color" box's black arrow to make sure your colors are set to "Solid" colors.

Now click on your dropper tool icon to select it.

Touch your dropper tool on a dark part of your roses.
Now that gives us our text color.
Click the arrow underneath your "Foreground" color box to switch it to your "Background" color box.

Next click on your Text tool icon.

Touch your text tool directly on the circle we drew. It will change to a slanted "A." If your 'A' isn't slanted move it closer to the circle.(It has to slant in order for your text to curve) When you see it slanted, then click on your circle. That will bring up your "Text entry" box.

For my text I chose, Brock Script font, size 36, "Justification" centered, "Auto kern" checked. Leading set to -3 (minus 3) and "Vector selected, "Antialias" checked.
"Leading" is what makes your text closer to or further away from your curve. So you may have to adjust yours according to your font and size. "Kerning" is how far your letters are from each other.
But if your text isn't touching your curve...adjust it up or down.
Click Ok.

Now if your text is hanging over your borders of your tag, you can adjust it using one of the boxes on your vector box around your text to make it fit just right.
Ok...to the fun part!
Don't get lost on me now.
Go up to "Selections" select none.
That removes your vector box from around your text.
Now...its according to where your tools are located..mine are on the left side of my "workspace." And the tool I need is on the very bottom...and I can't even see it...so here's what I do.
Up in my top left corner under my "New image" icon there are 2 horizonal lines. Double click those.

That will make your tool bar horizonal instead of vertical. (I just got use to it vertical and keep it that way...old school I guess! hehe)(to put it back vertical again after while just double click on the title bar across the top of your tools bar.)
With my tool bar horizonal, choose your "Object Selector" tool.

With your "Object selector" tool, place the cross hairs directly on the circle and double click.

It will bring up your "Vector properties" box.
You may notice that your vector "box" comes back around your circle...thats ok.
In your "Vector properties" box, you will notice "Visible" is checked...
UNCHECK it and click ok.

Now your circle is gone! whoopee!
Go up to "Selections" and select none again.
Tada!!!
Now, if you want to add shadow or effects to your text, use your "Object Selector" again and double click on your text. That puts a vector box around your text.

Go up to "Selections" choose "From vector object."
Back up to "Selections" choose "Float."
You may now use your effects, but I am just going to add some shadow.
I click on my "Drop shadow" icon on my "Effects" tool bar, or go up to Effects at the very top and down to 3D Effects and choose "Drop Shadow" in the menu.
My "Vertical is 4, Horizontal is 3, Opacity is 28, and Blur is 1.1. My color is #8D0D0D.
Click Ok.

Now go up to "Layers" down to Merge, Merge Visible.
Up to "Selections", select none.
You are finished!

I hope I didn't confuse the daylights out of you! And I hope you learned a thing or 2.
Happy Curving!!!
