Eliza Louisa Moore Neiman

Born: 1838 in Ouachita/Morehouse Parish, Louisiana

Eliza Louisa Moore was the youngest child of
Rebecca Moore. She was born in Ouachita Parish,
Louisiana, in 1838. Morehouse Parish was carved
out of Ouathica Parish in 1844, at which time the
official place of residence of the Moore family
became Morehouse Parish.

Eliza married William Henry Neiman about
1858/1859. The 1860 census shows Rebecca and son
Joseph in the same household with Eliza and Henry.
A search of land records will have to be made to
ascertain whether Rebecca and Joseph went to live
with Eliza and Henry, or if Neiman simply moved
into the household of his new mother-in-law.

The 1860 census also shows that Eliza’s first
child, Frances Elizabeth Neiman, was five months
of age at the time of the 1860 census. So, Frances
Elizabeth Neiman was born 1859/1860. Frances did
not survive until the census of 1870.

At the present time, we do not know who Henry
Neiman’s parents were or where he came from.
Looking at all these old census records, I seem
to get the feeling that he may have been from
Union Parish. However, he enlisted as a private
in Captain Stevens’ Morehouse Stars, along with
Eliza’s brothers Peter and Joseph, and was
transferred into Confederate service on March 17,
1862, in Memphis, Tennessee, at which time he
gave his home as Vicksburg, Mississippi.

The 1870 census shows that Rebecca was still
in the household with Eliza’s family. By that
time, Eliza and Henry Neiman’s remaining children
had been born.

John Willie Neiman was born in Morehouse Parish
in 1862, about the time his dad went off to serve
the Confederacy. He married Martha L. (Mattie)
Wren in Arkansas in 1883, and died in DeQueen,
Sevier County, Arkansas, in 1923.

Anna Neiman was born in 1866 in Morehouse
Parish, Louisiana. As yet, I have been unable to
ascertain whether or not Anna survived childhood.

Peter F. Neiman was born in Morehouse Parish
on March 20, 1867, after his dad came back from
the war. He married Fronica R. Raley on February
8, 1890, in Union County, Arkansas, and died April
15, 1924 in Miller County, Arkansas.

Further census investigation is necessary in
order to uncover exactly when the family of
Eliza Louisa Moore and William Henry Neiman moved
to Arkansas. We need to know whether they stayed
in Morehouse Parish until Rebecca Moore died, or
whether she went to Arkansas with them. We also
need to know where Rebecca, Eliza, and William
Henry died.
