Coach Spring graduated from John Curtis Christian School in 1981. He worked in the banking industry until 1989 when he decided to return to college to pursue an education degree. After graduating from Southeastern Louisiana University in May of 1993, he was hired to be the Boys Basketball Coach at Slidell Jr. High where he coached 2 future All-State basketball players in Terrill Donaldson and Torris Bright. In August of 1994, Coach Spring was hired to be a varsity assistant coach at Slidell High School under Head Coach Dan Ruffin. He served as the Freshman Coach at Slidell High compiling a record of 54-14 until May of 1998 when he was hired to be the Head Boys Basketball Coach at Pearl River High School in Pearl River, La. After compiling a record of 13-43 in 2 seasons at Pearl River, Coach Spring returned to Slidell High in May of 2000 where he was hired as an assistant coach under Jay Newcomb who had been hired to replace Coach Ruffin upon his retirement from coaching in April of 1999. The Tigers went on to become district champions that season under Coach Newcomb. Amid coaching changes following the retirement of Coach Newcomb in the Spring of 2001, Coach Spring was hired by Salmen High School as a Varsity Assistant under Jay Carlin. Salmen capped an undefeated district season in 2002 with another District title while Coach Spring's freshman team finished its season with a 12-1 record. In August of 2002, Slidell High School named Coach Rick Spring as its Head Boy's Basketball Coach. Coach Spring is in his 3rd year as Head Coach at Slidell after finishing the 2003-04 season with a 29-8 overall record and his first district championship.
Coach Spring is a teacher at Little Oak Middle School where he has taught Physical Education since 1998.
Along with coaching basketball, Coach Spring also enjoys officiating for local recreational basketball leagues, reading, music and hanging out with his family.
Coach Spring and Lori, his wife of 23 years, are the proud parents of Stephanie (21) and Aaron (16) and the proud grandparents of Bailey (2).
